Trying to find information about Elizabeth Cook she married Alexander Whitecross on the 25th July 1751 in Kingoldrum. I can’t find a birth entry for her in Kingoldrum or kerriemuir the nearest larger town. Would someone be kind enough to double check for me and see if they can find anything relating to Elizabeth and her family

Have you viewed the original - not a transcription - of the marriage record on scotlandspeople? Sometimes there is a clue there e.g. witnesses names.
There is a birth for an Elizabeth Cook in Inverarity on 2/2/1729. Inverarity is around 13 miles from Kingoldrum. Her father is listed as Patrick Cook.
Again the original is on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk Reference 292/10 21
Might be worth a look.

Dorrie , I found the original image of the marriage between Alexander and Elizabeth sadly it was just a record about them . No witnesses recorded . But I now have a copy of the original which is good. I can’t tell if the entry that you mentioned for Elizabeth’s birth can be tried up with her.

The further back in time you go the more difficult it becomes to be 100% certain you have the correct record as you will know.
One question for you are there witnesses on the birth/baptism record? Sometimes that gives you a clue.
Do you have names of children for Elizabeth and Alexander?

Children of Elizabeth and Alexander were Alexander born 1752 Ann and David . All born in kerriemuir.

Looking at the index on SP there is Alexander born in 1752, David born in 1756, Ann born in 1757 and also a Susan born in 1762 (she may of may not be their child.)
Scottish naming patterns back then followed a tradition of naming children as follows -
1st son after Father's Father.
2nd son after Mother's Father
1st Daughter after Mother's Mother
2nd Daughter after Father's Mother.
A lot of the records from back then no longer exist unfortunately. Sorry.

Hi Dorrie thanks for the explanation I had no idea there was a system to naming children I thought it was just random naming of who they liked !!

It was not always strictly adhered to so there are always exceptions.
Remember back then most people could not read or write unless they were upper class or nobility. Even the clerks recording births etc were not all that literate and that is where you can get variations in spelling.
I heard tell of one Parish Minister who made a bonfire with lots of his records as he thought they were worthless. Silly, stupid man. >:(
Sometimes we are lucky finding the relevant record, sometimes not unfortunately.
