I noticed Ancestry are advertising half price membership for £59.99 until 4th January, half of the usual £119 and a bit.
They don't say if this is just UK or worldwide membership.
-
This one still works.........UK Premium 59-99 and worldwide 89-99

I believe it is Premium membership for £59.99 via the link in the email they have sent.

Is that UK Premium (what does that mean?) or Worldwide membership?
I was considering getting a very short Worldwide membership, but just UK records isn't useful for me.

Ok thanks. They weren't at all clear about what that 4th January expiry link included.

Hi
I too am trying to update my subscription. I used the link on this thread showing a possible £89 option, it did take me through to join Worldwide subcription - great I thought! It already had payment details and offered me the chance to update username and password and I decided to update my password. When I checked on the 'my account' details it says I will pay £179 - any ideas what I might be doing incorrectly?
-
Your subscription must have run out to take advantage of the offer Sandra has posted.
-
Thank you rosie99 for noting that - mine had run out but I had forgotten to mention that in my post.
I also checked it had run out by doing a couple of searches, at first it looked as I would expect but when I clicked to open records it took me to a subscription page so it definitely looks as though it has been cancelled.
-

It would do as that would be the renewal price if you had not cancelled. Mine expires this evening so shall be making use of the offer, particularly as got Dad's DNA tested this year. :D

If you have cancelled, then renew on the link to get those much lower prices.

Will be interesting to see what I have been charged when I next see my bank details.
I did use the link to access the offer shown on this thread but I don't feel as though that has worked for me nor have I been given the special half price offer advertised today.
Will keep you posted.
-
Did you cancel your subscription - rather than let it renew automatically ?
Sandra
-
Thanks for your interest Sandra. Yes I cancelled it a couple of days before it was due to renew automatically. After the due date I checked it had not renewed and whilst the opening page looked the same and it let me search a name it would not allow access to open any document, so I presumed it had cancelled successfully. I also left it for a couple of days after that just to make sure - before using the link.
-
Oh!! I am now hopeful that I may have been given the reduced price ( despite what it says on my account details on ancestry) as I have just had a confirmation email welcoming me to the Ancestry site the site and in that it mentions the price in the link. Fingers Crossed!
-
Hope so. Love to see everyone getting these reduced prices.
Happy New Year.
Sandra :)
-
If I could just clarify - that this ancestry offer on the link below does not expire on 4 th January 2020 but has been going since as far back as 2016 - you must cancel your subscription when it comes up for renewal and then use this link to resubscribe to get the good prices..........

Thanks Sandra, yup just renewed at the reduced price again. Now renewing 29/12 instead of 28/12 as recent years but that's because I just get later in the day renewing each year and just tipped past midnight. ;)
Interestingly I've not seen anything on the website nor their Facebook page about a Premium offer this year which posted about here, I'm sure last year it was definitely visible to all by the 27th as Mum made use of it on the 28th. I wouldn't expect an email anyway as had subscription and unfortunately Ancestry seems to think I live in Australia and only sends me offers for there even though my account and subs have only ever been taken out on the UK site. Seemed to happen after I purchased a DNA test from the UK site last year, ever since just get Aussie offers which aren't much use. ::)
Happy New Year

Hi
just wanted to update Sandra and other very helpful people on this thread.
My subscription does seen to have renewed and for just 89.99, so I am absolutely delighted - thankyou. That is the price showing on my 'Order History' so I am now feeling more positive that the offer really has worked.
-
If ever in any doubt, take screenshots of the offer page before doing anything.
-
This link is amazing, thank you so much! :D
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct
I received an email from Ancestry a few days ago offering a 6 month worldwide membership for £79.99 (discounted from £99.99) which seemed pretty extortionate.
I'm very glad I checked on here, and was able to get an annual worldwide membership for £89.99!
-
Why are they only offering 6 month memberships now.... I let mine lapse with a view to using the code on here only to find for world wide for just 6 months is more expensive than I paid for a whole year!
Have they changed the settings for this does anyone know please?
Thanks
Caroline

I have found a couple of times that the link took me to the normal subscription page first. But when I try it again it goes to the 50% discount page as below.

Hi Sloe Gin
I've triedon numerous occasions and I've even put the whole thing into the search box and I still come up with either the 3 month or 6 month subs!
I'm doing it on my iPad ....that shouldn't make a difference though should it?
Last year I just clicked on Sandra's link and hey presto I was in and got my subs at half price. I let it run out this year ( end of Jan) and have just tried to re do and I'm not having any luck at all. 😭😭
Have you any further suggestions... should I try on my lap top, do I need to log In To ancestry?
It's very frustrating.... I'll be blowed if I'm going to pay full price as it's expensive but my DNA was done via them!
Thanks in anticipation

How long since your sub ran out? I didn't renew mine straight away and they actually offered me the same deal again after a few weeks, so I didn't need to use the link this time.
-
Are you definitely clicking on the link below? (Earlier in the thread you mentioned putting something into the search box - that wouldn't get the discount).
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct
Could you tell us what happens after you click on the link? What do you see?

Yes try both of those.

It ran out on 21st Jan, I cancelled it b4 then as I was going to be away in France and didn't want it auto renewed...
They had sent me a mail b4 hand reducing it to £132.00 but I chose not to take it knowing that last year I'd used Sandra's link at got it for £89.

I can't believe how dumb I can be sometimes..... must be down to my age or some other excuse!
I have just logged in to my Ancestry account , come back on here, clicked on the link and guess what...... yes you're correct its now come up with the discount of £89.99 that I had last year!
Thanks all for patience and suggestions to someone whose not half sharp!

Merry Christmas All!
Was wondering, the links to the cheaper subscriptions still appear to work, however, the suggestions on here are to cancel the existing subscription a few days before it runs out, and then renew using the half-price links. My worry is, if I do this, can I just log in as before and carry on revising and adding to my tree just as I have done previously?
If I try to renew using my same username and password, won't a window just pop up saying that someone (me!) is already using the same logins and I will have to use new ones.....effectively forcing me to start afresh!
-
Yes absolutely. :)
I cancel a couple of weeks beforehand, wait a few days after the expiry date, then use the link to renew using my existing details.

Lots of posts about this, the offer is still valid, providing you don't have a current sub.
This post may help to explain how to go about it:
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=848296.msg7169787#msg7169787
NB double check that the cancellation has gone through prior to the expiry date, the process seems to have been a bit long winded for me this year but I did eventually get an email confirming the cancellation and all went smoothly after that.

Yes, I can confirm it still works. I used it only a few days ago, as I mentioned in another thread. I cancelled my subscription a couple of days before it expired. On the day of expiry, I still had full access until about 1 p.m. UK time, when I noticed that although still logged in, I was now the holder of a Guest Account.
I waited a couple of hours, used the link explained above, and took out a new worldwide subscription for £89.99 ;)
Nothing is lost, other than the ability to view records during the "downtime" between subscriptions. Just remember to repeat in 12 months time, or it will auto-renew at £179-99!
-
Hi Cad169.
Yes when you renew using the link, you take up where you left off. You don't lose anything you've previously added to your tree. As previous posters have said, just make sure your previous subscription has actually been cancelled...Ancestry send an email to confirm the cancellation.
-
Ahhh, thank you for the replies, most appreciated. Can I ask, am I pressing on the Membership....Cancel Membership button in my Account settings to stop the subscription? Ha! and definitely NOT the Delete Account button?
-

You want to cancel your membership. It will revert to a free (guest) account when your current subscription expires (the original expiry date) and your tree(s) and other information will remain and still be accessible even if you don't resubscribe.
Don't delete your account, you will lose your data including family trees and DNA information!

Does anyone know if there's a Canadian version (for Ancestry.ca). I've been waiting for the email to show up in for me and so far nothing. I don't have an active subscription for the express purpose of waiting for the half off discount.
Thanks.
-
Thank you so much for posting the link ;D ;D
I have a subscription costing £13.99 per month for UK and Ireland. Followed the link given and it offered me have a Worldwide subscription for £89.99 less a refund of 1 month of £13.99 = £76.00. They automatically cancelled my monthly one without me having to do anything except press a button.
Brilliant and thanks again :-* :-*

But the £99 sub is only for six months....so where is the saving?
This offer is for £59.99 12 month membership for UK Premium and £89.99 12 month membership Worldwide.
-
Thanks but the link gave 6 moths for the everything column for £99.
If it was £99 for the year then that would be ok.
So where am I going wrong?
-
Hi Lola5
I was getting the same page as you.
I logged out of my Ancestry account, cleared my history. Relogged back in and click the link again and it took me too the offer of 59.99 year premium. The is also the option for worldwide.
Hope this helps

Although @dowdstree was able to see the offer whilst logged in with a current subscription (and I was also able to view it in similar circumstances) I think most people say the link only works if you don't have a current subscription.
That makes sense, because the terms of the offer small print say that it is not valid for renewing an existing subscription.
@dowdstree went ahead and accepted the offer whilst logged in, and obtained a rebate for the remaining month on the existing subscription, but because of the T&C's it seems to me to be safer to follow the recommendation of cancelling your current subscription (so that it doesn't auto-renew) and then taking the offer after your subscription has expired.
But to check, if you visit the link through an incognito browser window without logging in to your account, do you the see the discounted offer prices?
Best I think to follow the previous advice here and ensure that your current subscription has expired before taking up the offer, even if you can access it whilst still currently subscribed.
-
The heading on this thread is mis-leading, it is an old thread 2019 - so the membership is available all year not just until 4 th January.
Here is another thread where the reduced membership was discussed in detail.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=805734.0
You never get the new offer whilst your membership is active.
--------------------------
Log into your Ancestry Account - Click on your user name, top right of the screen
Choose Account settings - In the Membership section is shows when your current sub renews automatically - Cancel the membership renewal
This is to make sure you are not automatically charged the full renewal premium the day its due.
When your sub has lapsed, its not a renewal and you can take advantage of this offer.
Once the membership has expired, login into your account, the membership will now say you are a registered guest. Stay logged in and then click on the link :-
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct
Some people have reported that it takes a few attempts to log in and get the correct screen, just keep trying until it comes up, it will eventually. Everything on your tree will be exactly the same as it was before.
Go through the link, it doesn't work if you call and ask !!!
The offer is still available so keep trying.
Hope this helps.
Happy New Year Everyone.
Sandra :)

I have no idea why, but I agree that to comply with the T&Cs it is best to ensure that your current subs have been cancelled/expired before using the offer, as if purchases for the offer keep going through with rebates for current subscriptions applied, it might eventually flag up something that causes Ancestry to review the offer ;)
-
Hopefully not, a lot of us have been doing this offer for 5 + years and it is common knowledge on other genealogy sites. :)

Thank you Cas, phil57. and Sandra, for explanations.
I have not had an Ancestry sub for years now.
They still have my shoebox etc.
Changed to FindMyPast instead. Gave that up too
Tried forces records for a month .Not detailed enough.
Before it became FindMyPast and even before that it was something else?, a site that had a wealth of Irish records.: Something like British and Irish genealogy( memory not so good now). Which was super.
As was Hugh Wallis.
Don,t think I will bother with Ancestry sub. Too much hassle .
Will take one last sub for F M P. And hope to find the impossible.
-
After enjoying the last (almost) 2 years of free access from home of Ancestry Library Edition which expired 31 December 2021, I have just taken out a subscription again at the discounted price (from Australia).
Thank you again Sandra, and happy new year to all! :D
-
That's very good news. Enjoy.

I believe that at the moment Ancestry is offering 50% reduction on the Premium rates to everyone- some people have received e-mails. This runs out in a few days. People who have applied for this have been given rebates. It is a different offer to the one in the link which only works when your subscription has run out and you are technically a new subscriber.
-
My half price UK ancestry sub ran out at Christmas but I am still able to look at parish register images but not census images. Is this a blip or are Ancestry running an offer for free parish register information.

Yes, I've had that offer by email too. But it was the offer on Premium or Worldwide membership for new subscribers that I was referring to. I subscribed to WW at £89.99 about a week ago, using the link that Sandra has posted, after my Premium membership had expired. But I was able to see the offer several weeks before that time, by following Sandra's link whilst my then Premium membership was still current.
I can visit the link in my browser, still logged in to my Ancestry account with an active WW membership, and still see it today. If I click the link to buy one of the subscriptions, I'm given a rebate on my current subscription which is deducted from the price, so the system knows I'm logged in. I don't know why that is the case for me, yet others seem to have difficulty getting the link to work even after allowing their subs to expire :-\

Hi,
I received an email today from Ancestry.ca, offering 50 percent off 6 month Canada Discovery Plus and Worldwide subscriptions. (41.99 CDN and 64.99 CDN respectively). The offer is available until Jan 10.
I was also able to view Sandra's 50 percent off Ancestry UK yearly subs - when I signed in to the Ancestry UK site with my Ancestry Canada username and password, then clicked on the link Sandra provided.
Happy New Year :) :)

Thank you Sandra.
I have tried all in my power and very kind folk on here have helped me but cannot go further.
I know where they lived in Lusmagh, the land they farmed but no gravestones and no way of finding where they came from before 1829 when my great grandfather, Thomas Keough/ Keogh was baptised in Lusmagh. His father also Thomas but no mother,s name on register.
He has a sister Mary born 1820 who wed John Mc Neill.
And a brother Patrick who married Brigid ? and they had a son Peter. Also baptised Lusmagh .
Old Thomas and Thomas jun are both on Griffifths farming land owned by Sir Robert Blosse Lynch.
I know the actual fields they worked and in 1901 were living in Newtown next to the Larkins.
There were other Keoghs in Lusmagh from 1829 to the 1900.s Some died ,some must have emigrated.
I have gone through Lusmagh parish registers many times but they are hard to read.
Reynagh and Gallen registers also proved unfruitful. As did Killaloe
I,ve tried various parishes in Tipperary and Clare where Keoghs lived but cannot find a Thomas Keough born about 1780 c whose father may have been Patrick and who farmed..
There is/ was a Keogh,s Hill in Lusmagh but I can find no further info on why it was so called.
Early census yield nothing.
Census of 1901 show t he family still there apart from those who had emigrated and by 1911 only Lizzie was left in Ireland....found her on dog licence list.
I have been searching a long time.
Maybe time now to give up.
Happy New year to all.

I thought I had seen something but could not find it. I have now renewed my cheap sub as I suspect I won't be able to get much response from F M P for a few days after they release the census :)

Oh, the census. I'd forgotten all about that.
