Has anyone who's had a DNA test found a connection back to Samuel Stubbs, a builder, who died in Hull on 3rd August 1818 aged 61? I have lots of circumstantial evidence linking my 3xG grandfather to him, but can find no proof. It is possible Samuel was born in York, the son of John Stubbs, a basketmaker.

Hi,
This is probably a long shot but I have Stubbs in my tree - a major line as my paternal grandmother was a Stubbs. The forename Samuel is one that they used quite a lot.
However, they were from Staffordshire/Shropshire and I don't know of any connection to Hull or York.
I have tested my DNA with Ancestry. If you are also with Ancestry DNA and would like to give me your username on there (by PM if you'd prefer) I can check to see if you and I share a DNA match.

Hello Jill
Thanks for replying. My user name on Ancestry is MisterStubby. I'm aware that there were a lot of Stubbs' in Staffordshire. I've not found a link with them, but I'm grateful to you for offering to have a look.
Best wishes

Sorry, Peter, no luck I'm afraid. I checked my 3 brothers' matches as well (I persuaded them to test!!) but couldn't find a match.
Oh well, worth a try! I hope you find him.
