My GG Grandmother was Elizabeth Ann English. She was born in 1866 in North Sunderland and died in Cambois Northumberland in 1933. She had a son John William English who was born in Tynely Northumberland in 1891. Elizabeth was a domestic servant in Ellingham Northumberland. I need to know more about Elizabeth. Can anyone help please

Welcome. Can you point us towards a census entry?
Is this the correct family? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XS9D-TG8
1911 entry which matches the 1901 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWMR-YVN
Birthplace is given as Belford parish.
You also ask about GG Grandfather in the title but the body of the request is asking about Elizabeth?

She had a son John William English
Was mum married or a single woman ie was English her maiden name or married name?
-
In the census(es) which might be her, she is unwed.
She has a namesake at Tinley Farm, Parish of Ellingham in 1891. Head of house is Janet Renton, 72y, widow.
Child was baptised in Sept 1891. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J7KZ-Z4C

And a warm welcome to Rootschat from me.
MODIFIED - this speculation has been disproved by later posts

The only birth I can see on the General Register Office index is:
ENGLISH John William, Dec qtr 1891 Tynemouth vol 10b p243, mmn GILCHRIST
This could relate to a marriage found on FreeBMD:
Mar qtr 1880 Newcastle vol 10b p10 William ENGLISH on same page as Elizabeth GILCHRIST, Margaret GILCHRIST and William JAMIESON.
If John William's father was William ENGLISH, who is not with him and his mother on the 1901 census there is a possible death (and one less likely) on FreeBMD:
ENGLISH William, Dec qtr 1899 Tynemouth vol 10b p175, age 54.
If the above is correct, this would leave the question of why a father was not named on the baptism found by PaulineJ ???

Welcome to Rootschat Lesley :)
Could this be Elizabeth's birth?
ENGLISH, ELIZABETH ANN -
GRO Reference: 1864 M Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 286
The dash means that she is illegitimate.

The 1901 census shows a Florence Ada and this appears to be her birth registration
ENGLISH, FLORENCE ADA -
GRO Reference: 1894 D Quarter in MORPETH Volume 10B Page 403
Annie May, the other girl on the census, doesn't want to show up as a birth registration
-
This looks like William's birth here
ENGLISH, WILLIAM -

Hmmmmmm. This would give Elizabeth Ann's children as:
William John born c1892
Florence Ada born c1895
Annie May born c1898
George born c1905
Laura born c1908
Births matching these children on GRO are:
William ENGLISH, Mar qtr b1891 Morpeth vol 10b p379 (no mmn)
Florence Ada ENGLISH, Dec qtr 1894 Morpeth vol 10b p403 (no mmn)
Annie May MORRIS, Jun qtr 1897 Morpeth vol 10b p417, mmn ENGLISH ? ?
George ENGLISH, Dec qtr 1904 Morpeth vol 10b p438 (no mmn)
Laura Norris ENGLISH, Mar qtr 1908 Morpeth vol 10b p467 (no mmn)
So, my ideas about a father William ENGLISH were a red herring - sorry!
Philip

I see that the 1901 census gives Elizabeth's age as 37 therefore a birth year of 1864. So that illegitimate birth I found for Elizabeth may well be correct.

I think you must be correct. If so, FamilySearch has a baptism at Morpeth 10 Feb 1864 Elizabeth Ann ENGLISH daughter of Ann.
I am a little concerned that North Sunderland was in the Belford registration district. However, the earliest ENGLISH registration in Belford RD was in 1883, and although there were several Elizabeths registered in Belford none of them had surnames remotely resembling ENGLISH.

Elizabeth could be on the 1871 census in a workhouse in Belford aged 7. I can't find her on FamilySearch in 1881 or 1891.
