Title: Was there a prison in Macclesfield?
Post by: J Bux on Thursday 19 December 19 16:18 GMT (UK)
In the 1901 census, William Henry Hart Carline (14), who was born in Nottingham in 1887, is residing in Macclesfield, Cheshire.  He is described as an inmate who’s occupation is Brushmaker and Scholar.  Does anybody known if there was a young offenders prison near there in 1901? if so what was it called?

There was also a workhouse in Macclesfield and residents were also described as inmates.

Have just looked at the front page of the enumeration book for this area of Macclesfield. It shows that the residence of William Carlino was the Certified Industrial School of Macclesfield.
