Hello, my grandfather William James Taylor died on 5th August 1935 and was buried in Anfield Cemetery on the 10th of August 1935 and I am trying to find the plot number of his grave.
I contacted Liverpool Records Office Archives and received a very helpful reply letting me know where to find the information within the Archive. They usually list such information as date of burial, rank / profession of the deceased, section and grave number. For example, for August 1935, the appropriate reference codes are:
352 CEM 6/1/24 – Church of England
352 CEM 6/2/7 – General / Nonconformist
353 CEM 6/2/12 – Roman Catholic.
He should be found within the Church of England record.
I live in Lancaster so it may be some time before I can travel to Liverpool to check the microfilm record so would much appreciate a look-up if there is anybody who visits the Liverpool Archive regularly and wouldn't mind me taking up a little of their valuable research time.
Thanking you in anticipation
Kind regards,
John

The Friends of Anfield Cemetery were very helpful in finding and photographing my great grandfather's grave. They do ask for a donation but that's only fair.

This website is brilliant for Anfield Cemetery records:
freepages.rootsweb.com/~ormandy/history/page2.html
As well as finding the grave/plot number, it also gives a description of the headstone and details of the inscription, I've found loads of relatives on/in here.
If the link doesn't work try googling Anfield Cemetery Records, it should come up near the top of your search.

Thank you both for your replies. I don't think the family was well-off enough to have a headstone but I shall certainly try both suggestions.

The difficulty with http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~ormandy/history/page2.html is that it is indexed by surname only. I recently went through all the Jones entries without finding my relative's inscription. It is there, but I didn't find it because I was doing page searches for his middle name (Job) and it transpires that it is not mentioned in the inscription !

Thanks ShaunJ, I've had a look and there are dozens of Taylors!
It's at times like this when a surname like Scrungebottom would be an advantage!
I have been in touch with Friends of Anfield Cemetery who for each grave search normally receive a donation between £20 - £35, but don’t expect a donation if they can’t help.
I shall be sending them details in the New Year
Thanks again

My last message should have read, “Liverpool Cemeteries” this includes Anfield, I did have a look through newspapers, but didn’t spot anything for the children’s deaths.

If you have access to Ancestry, go to the card catalogue and search for
England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2016
put in his name and year of death, Liverpool as the place and he comes up as first on the list of results.
If you don't have a sub, your local library may well have access to Ancestry from the pcs in the library.
As its a public grave, its doubtful that there will be a headstone and other family members are not likely to be interred in the same plot.
