Title: Partially faded writing
Post by: bailey172 on Friday 06 December 19 20:39 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

I'm not sure whether this is even possible, as it's less handwriting and more illegibility due to being quite faded. However, you never know what a fresh pair of eyes might be able to bring :)

I want to know the name of the informant for the death of John Tennant Reid. I can make out "--- Reid", "son" and the address, but not the first name. I do know he had a son named Robert Tennant Reid, but it doesn't look to me like that's the name on the document.

Finding it quite hard to find any additional children he might have had on Scotland's People, particularly without succumbing to the temptation of throwing too much money after potentially incorrect records!

Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated and would at least help me narrow down names to search for.

Thanks

My attachment wouldn't work, let's see if this pdf link does: https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/images-pdf/D1965_552_00_0002Z

That pdf link isn't working for me. It comes up with an error message.
Any attachment you make has to have a unique name that's not been on rootschat before. If you try renaming it to something unique, you might have better luck attaching it.

Thanks - it was the file size that was causing me to be unable to attach. I've now managed to upload some cropped versions, it hasn't done the image quality many favours but as I said it's very faded anyway.

Have you made any effort to find out what children the couple had?  I see that John and Charlotte (McGowan)married in the St. Rollox district.

There is a birth for a William McGowan Reid in 1904 in the St. Rollox district.  There is also a John Tennant Reid born 1906 same district.

The 1911 census shows John and Charlotte with sons Hugh, Wm (presumably William) and John.

Looks like John Snr is a van man in a bakery.  Born 1880.

Added: There is a birth record for Hugh in 1902 St. Rollox

That's really helpful, thank you. I'm still getting used to the slightly different way of searching Scottish records so hadn't yet found much of that information.

Judging by the length of the writing I would suggest it was William who was the informant.

On first glance I thought William.

Before reading the replies I thought the name may be William, but I thought I saw Wm with a middle name which I could not fathom.

You can request a clearer copy from Scotlands People. They are very good with this kind of request.  :)

Could it be Wm Mc Reid?

Thanks all for your patience and help - I agree it looks most likely to be William.
