After trying to find my grandmother in Scotland and on passenger lists with rootschat help, I found a death record for 1939 age 44 -she was born 1894- in Carlisle volume 100 page 677 on ancestry. How can I find out more details?

Hi blue2
Just adding link to older post to save people repeating any searches where you already have info

Thanks Monica. You helped a lot previously. Got info in Scottish records. Just wondered how I find out if latest information is relevant and how to get more details on death.

Unfortunately, you would need to order that death cert to see what it showed. I think you are familiar with English BMDs so will note that death cert may not include what you need to determine whether it is the right entry for Janet.
Frustrating search for you :-\

If that death certificate has a home address for her, you can look in the 1939 register to see who is living there then. Might be helpful, unfortunately you will not know unless you try it.

Thanks Monica and chempat. Have only looked at Scottish records. Not done English. Where do you find details?
-
Sorry, blue2. I thought (wrongly) with your mother's death place etc, you may have looked at English records in the past.
Do you have an actual birth date for Janet in 1894?

Thanks for your time chempat. Will work on that.

Put wrong day for grandmother. It's 28th January 1894. Found the GRO records office harder to negotiate than Scotland's people but sent for death cert. and will see if anything matches. Thanks again Monica and chempat

Just got the pdf of a death certificate from GRO but it's not my grandmother. From birth year I was hoping it would be at last correct so am really disappointed.
Ancestry come up with very little when I say exact match but all sorts when I don't. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Also the Halstead family tree Monica put me onto said my grandfather was a widower when he remarried but the marriage certificate said divorced so someone might know something.
Am stuck with where to look next.

Could you apply to see if she is showing in Scotland on 1939 register - as born 1894 do not think you have to prove she has died?
-
Have been on Scotland People website but not found anything. Which 1939 register do you mean?

If they cannot find her then she either died before 1939 in Scotland, has moved elsewhere, or is hiding with different birth date?

Thanks for your time chempat. Have looked through the English 1939 register. Will try the Scottish one, although I have done research on Scotland's People website before with no luck. I suppose a divorced woman with nothing may hide away understandably.
