Title: Mellings family in Chile
Post by: Barry Emmott on Tuesday 26 November 19 22:40 GMT (UK)
I my be related, distantly, to a family called Mellings who emigrated, probably from Liverpool to Antofagasta in Chile back in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Anybody have anything which might help me ?

Normally emigrants from the British Isles to South America could mean Mining or Mining Management.

Thanks for your response. I'm fairly sure you're right as burial records for the earliest Mellings I've been able to find show they were buried in 1965 in RC Antofagasta, Defunciones which I believe were associated with the potash mining business.
I could be quite wrong but any info is welcome. Regards, Barry
P.S. I've seen some of those cemetaries and they are quite a chilling sight.
