Hi folks Im trying to find the birth record of William B Hill born Abergavenny 9th March 1883. I have that specific information from his grandson so I believe it is correct. I am a member of Ancestry and have searched on therebut cant find his birth record, Ive also looked on Findmypast and the family forum. Im not sure what the B stands for, Ive found records for a William Bolwell but thats not him. Could be Benjamin as one of his sons is a Ben. I have his marriage to Emily in 1921 but its possible this was his second wife. Can anyone of you wonderful people help at all please
-
What was his marital status on the 1921 marriage cert?
Have you found him on the 1891 -1911 censuses to determine who his parents were?
Where and when did he die as there are only 2 William B Hill deaths with a birthyear 1882-1884 and neither was in Wales
Who did he marry & when & where?
-
If his grandson has a specific birthdate - where did he get it from? If he has the birth cert - ?? Details from it
-
Hi CaroleW Sorry I dont have any certificates I think the birthdate came from my cousins late mums diary. Most of the info I have is from the census. Just a bit odd that there doesnt appear to be a record.
-
Hi CaroleW he died in 1947 in Durham
-
Married an Emily Collins in Newport 1921
-
He married Emily Collins march qtr 1921 Newport 11a 544
His marriage cert will show his full christian names and his fathers name
-
Hi CaroleW he died in 1947 in Durham
Death June qtr 1947
William B Hill
age 62
Darlington reg district 1a 229
Have you checked his date of birth with the 1939 register
-
So that death does not support an 1883 birthyear but the 1939 entry does
I don't think he was actually born in Wales but you need the marriage cert to confirm his fathers name
Births June qtr 1883 William Benjamin Hill Birmingham 6d 68 - mmn Millward
Possible parents Edwin Hill & Rosabella Millward
However - there is a 1960 death in Warwickshire which may be the above William
-
Looks like the Birmingham 'William Benjamin' died in infancy
Death Sep qtr 1883
HILL William Benjamin age 0
Birmingham 6d 38

Another one bites the dust!!
There is a William Bale Hannaford Hill birth in Totnes June qtr 1883 - mmn Bale
Parents Michael Hanaford Hill & Mary Jane Bale

A bit late in life but a possibility
Marriage Sep qtr 1936
Hill William B H (spouse Jenkin)
Jenkin Beatrice M
Kingsbridge 5b 543
1939 register has this couple but year of birth for William does not tally. I suspect that it could be wrong as it is almost identical to his wifes entry.

You've done it again Rosie ;D
Can't find another birth with those middle initials so seems very likely he married late in life.
-
William definitely died in Durham as my aunt (his daughter in law) couldnt go to the funeral as she was pregnant expecting my cousin.
-
Williams son and first born John James ( my uncle) was born in 1922 and died 1997 spent many a holiday in Wales with him in 50's and theres at least 9 of them
-
At least we have tried :) .
William Bolwell Hill has been discounted, he married Ellen Symonds in 1909 and is still with her pre WW2.
It looks as though the marriage certificate to Emily is needed.

Isn't that the right death registration that I posted then.
-
Yes I believe it is
-
Have you researched this one
Birth Dec qtr 1883
William Burrows Hill
Stockton reg district 10a 67
-
No I havent Rosie I think all the family believe he was definitely born in Wales but............you never know. Thanks very much for your time and effort all of you I appreciate it. If any of the family have certificates(which I doubt) I will certainly get back to you all to put it to bed. Thanks once again

Eliminating ....
Marriages Jun qtr 1913
Mabel Brookes
William B Hill
Warwick 6d 1288
Son James Clifford Hill in 1915
I think this William may have been a career soldier, he got B.E.M in 1952, he was in Royal Artillery
-
Hi Folks it would appear that I have been leading you all astray as William B Hill apparently wasnt born in Wales at all. He did live and marry in Abergavenny but Ive been told he was born in either Ringwood or Romsey in Hants. The bad news is that I still cant find him there!!
Thanks for all the efforts tho
Tony

It looks as though you need that 1921 marriage to establish who his father was and whether William B. had been married before.
