Title: Charles Collins b 1856
Post by: callbrian on Thursday 21 November 19 11:47 GMT (UK)
Hi
I am in a bit of a quandary re the above named Charles Collins b 1856 Folke/Alweston Dorset.
On his marriage details both on Ancestry and findmypast it states his marital status as “widowed”.
He married Anna Ridout April 1876. Is it mis transcription? I have searched for another marriage for him without any success. He was just 20 when he married Anna, so I assume he married between 18& 20, if at all.
I am only interested in any possible other marriage, Please only info on this, I have all the detail I need on Charles and Anna.
Regards
Brian

DorsetOPC does not give marital status on that entry, other entries on the same page indicate whether they are widowed.

I can't see the record you are referring to on FindMyPast

ADDED Ancestry have the parish register image and it does state widower

Is it mis transcription?

The original church record is on Ancestry and it does say that he is aged 20, widower.

On October 29th 1874, same parish register, Bernard Collins, of full age, father Joseph Collins, marries, he is also described as a widower, so it looks like an unfortunate family.

Added:
On June 15th, 1869, Thomas Collins, 21, same father, marries.  He is a bachelor. However, he was initially described as a widower, and this has been crossed out.

Added: Bernard's 1st marriage in 1870 to Charlotte.

I found a marriage that may be of interest on Free BMD. In the Dec Q of 1871 Charles Collins married a Elizabeth Mary Lethey in Dorchester Volume 5,  Page 765.

Its the only other one in Dorset that I can find

Thanks for the replies.
I think there were a few widowers marrying in my family, perhaps they were “unlucky”
I found the marriage in Frome, they were still together later, so not them.
