Title: Garden Street, Macclesfield
Post by: goff153 on Tuesday 19 November 19 15:27 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find the inhabitants of no 71 Garden Street, Macclesfield in the 1891 census.  I have found nos 1-55 Garden Street in the parish of Hurdsfield but the remaining numbers do not appear there and I am wondering if that part of Garden Street lay in a different parish. (Google Street View shows that no 71 still exists).  Can anyone help me please?

Garden Street seems to be listed as part of the civil parish of Tytherington, with No.71 at RG12/2810 fo101 p10, although the heading on that page has been altered to show it as being in the ecclesiastical parish of Hurdsfield.

The inhabitants are a Ralph Johnson (widower), his daughter and son-in-law Hannah and Edward Hornby (?) and their daughter Grace.

Thank you very much indeed - that's wonderful.  My great grandparents (Henry and Louisa Peake) were both living there when they married at the Register Office in 1890. Before that they had six children, of which my Gran, born in 1887 was the youngest. In each census up to then they described themselves as man and wife. So it's an intriguing family mystery that I am trying to solve. Thank you once again for your help. Godfrey Eland.
