I cant find the birth and marriage of Thomas, I have him in 1841 and 1851 census with wife Frances and some children. 1841 his is in Little Bridgeford next to his son Thomas who is my 3rd Gt Grandfather. (This Thomas also has a questionable birth I believe it to be 1808 in Gnosall he married twice one of which to Ann Grimes) In 1851 he is a retired farmer living in Brook Street Stafford. He is my 4th Gt Grandfather. I have also found another family that at times have lived next door to my family and they must be linked but cant find the link. One of my ancesters was a servant for them when they lived in same street. Both families are all farmers
There is a Thomas b 1791 and a William b 1800 both in Childs Ercall with parents John and Mary can anyone help me link these to my family and also help with my ancesters marriage and birth? I have plenty of info on both families so any info would be extremely helpful

I note the census returns you mention and I guess Thomas was born near Burton upon Trent.
Thos Atkins Little Bridgeford, Staffordshire 70 in 1841 (1767 – 1771) age rounded down in 1841.
Thomas Atkins Stretton, Staffordshire 77 in 1851 (1754)
Stretton is a large village and civil parish in Staffordshire, England. It is situated on the northern outskirts of Burton upon Trent
The only baptism I can see on Family search in the area below.
Thomas Atkin baptised12 May 1775 Burton-upon-Trent. Parents Josuah & Mary
There is another Stretton in the County
Stretton is a village, township, and parochial Chapelry (to Penkridge), three miles SW of Penkridge
There is a Thomas Atkins age 60 in Penkridge 1841

Hi ColC
I believe he is from Stretton near Penkridge as on the census it says Stretton (Brewood) which I know is not far from Penkridge. Little Bridgeford, Seighford, Coton Clanford, Gnosall are main areas my Atkins family are from, so the Penkridge one is a new area for me but also the furthest back I've gone. I dont believe the Thomas in Penkridge in 1841 is my Thomas as it fits for him to be with Frances in Little Bridgeford with his son living next door.
I have never ordered death certificates before, what info will that give me?
I'm puzzled as to why I cant find the marriage and who the others are that were born in Childs Ercall, Im sure they aren't coincidence and they will link up somewhere, I think its possible that Thomas and Williams father John could be my Thomas brother

Information on death certificates has varied over the years but can sometimes throw up some useful bits.
· Name of the deceased, their supposed age at death and occupation
· The cause of death
· Date and place of death
· The informant and their relationship to the deceased
CHILDS ERCALL, SHROPSHIRE BAPTISMS = John & Mary
George 1783, Mary 1785, Thomas 1791
Anne 1793, John 1795, William 1800
John Atkin age 21 (1762) Farmer Marital Status: Unknown
Marriage by License 23 April 1783 Hodnet, Shropshire
Mary Woodhouse age 21 (1762) single
Also recorded at Hodnet, & Woore, Shropshire 25 April 1783
No baptism records for either in Shropshire a few in Staffordshire but not the ares of interest.
A tree on family search suggests John born Shropshire in 1754 parents Edward & Sarah. I do not think that is correct. Atkins and its variations is quite a common name but it is strange not to find any detail, especially in Staffordshire, as regards the marriage it may be that the record has not survived or it may have been a civil marriage, which was not recorded. However I cannot see a clear connection with John to your Thomas.

Welcome to Rootschat.
Do you have Baptisms for the children of Thomas with the Mother as Frances?
Why I ask this is she may be a second Wife for Thomas.
ELIZA Atkins married John TILDESLEY 1845
Her Father THOMAS a Labourer
A Joseph Atkins was a witness
The Grandson JAMES born c 1839 was Bapt 14 Jul 1839, Mother MARY Atkins
1861 James is with his Mother Mary now Mrs TIPPER. She is born c 1815 Gnosall
Thomas Jnr was a Widower when he married Ann GRIMES 1839
Ann is noted as illeg, Mother Ellen Grimes
His 1st Wife may have been Mary Ann CLARKE and they married 05 Jul 1829
ANN Atkins was Bapt 28 Mar 1830, Parents THOMAS/MARY, Father Shoemaker

Thanks again ColC
Trish,
Thomas that married Ann Grimes is my 3rd Gt Grandfather his first wife was Mary Ann Clarke they had two children.
The Jane born in 1836 could be this Thomas child with first wife as he is a shoemaker but I don’t have her in 1841 census so she could of died before then or live with grandparents, I will look into this. I only have two children with first wife Ann b 1830 and John b 1833 but there could be another child could even be why Mary died...
At the moment I only have 4 children with Thomas and Frances William 1807, my Thomas 1808, Mary 1821 and Eliza 1827, there are a few gaps so I should imagine there are more children but without there marriage it’s difficult to see if the elder Thomas had married before, at the end of the month I will order their death certificates

I have Mary Ann Clarke born in 1804 Tamworth Parents John and Ann which fits in with her eldest children being Ann and John but I haven't found her death either which I presume is Seighford and I presume is before 1839 which is when Thomas had remarried but as I wasn't descended from her I haven't worried too much about that or confirmed anything form a marriage certificate. Its Thomas father and where these other Atkins born in childs Ercall Im more interested in. I do have a few photos on my phone from graves, I will go back through and see if I've missed anything.
