Edgar James Maybery was born in Newport in 1887, was married in 1905 and had quite a few children. He became a well-known artist. He died in Pwllheli in 1964, and I know that he and his wife were living in Weymouth in the early 1950s. I want to try to fill in some of the details. Why is he not on the 1939 register for instance? Where was he from about 1920 onwards? He was discharged from the Army in 1917. Any information will be appreciated.

It would seem Edgar worked under other names including Miller, Stanton and Simes. This may have been for contractual reasons. We have included some paintings bearing the signatures Miller and Stanton, and attributed to Maybery
Maybe using these names or others.

If you know his exact date of birth, you can search in 1939 that way, not using surname.

Chempat, I will try doing that!
