Title: South London Press newspaper
Post by: Tempest55 on Sunday 10 November 19 23:39 GMT (UK)
Could you please get me a news article from the South London Press of the 21st October 1905 which reports on the death of Sidney Samuel Holt (or perhaps Samuel Sidney Holt). I think he was found dying in the street (my Mother used to say 'dead in the gutter') and the paper reported this because he was a prominent member of the Council and a leading mason.

I think this would have been reported in other local papers too, but I don't suppose the facts would have been given any differently.

Probably there was an inquest which would have been reported, but I do not have a date for this.

Help is of course much appreciated - there is no hurry at all, though.

Councillor’s Sudden Death

We regret to announce the death of Mr Sidney Samuel Holt, a member of the Camberwell Borough Council for St John’s (East Dulwich) Ward, which took place under distressing circumstances on Monday morning.
Mr Holt was the subject of a sudden seizure in the street, and was quickly removed to Guy’s hospital . He never rallied and expired in that institution.
Mr Holt was returned to the council for the first time at the last election and rendered service on several committees.
Of a free and genial disposition , he was popular with a large circle of friends and his untimely end at the age of 44 is much deplored.
He was engaged in the import paper trade and acted as London agent to a New York firm of paper manufacturers.

That is FANTASTIC!

I spent the whole morning trying to find the item in British Newspaper Archives again, and failed utterly.

And here it is, in full, from you good people.

Wow!  Many thanks.
