I wonder if someone would be so kind as to locate the following on the 1851 and/or 1841 census, most likely in Blackburn:
James Fish (don't know when born or where)
wife Lettice Fish (don't know when born or where)
known children Joseph b 1839 (12)
Richard b 1844 (7)
Ann b 1845 (6)
Lettice b 1848 (3)
All born Blackburn.
I found Lettice and a couple of possibles for the children on the 1861 and Lettice was down as an orphan so James and Lettice must have died sometime between 1848 and 1861 but can't find their deaths.
Any help gratefully received!
Thanks

Thanks Jinks :) for all your trouble in typing that up! I don't get to records offices/libraries at the mo so will keep them until I get a chance.
Maybe someone on here will have access to the census, will have to wait and see.

Just been on Lancashirebmd and found
James Fish and Lettice Hayhurst married 1838
Married Manchester Cathedral.
Seemed a descent match--- one year before

Thanks again! I had actually found this marriage and believe it to be the right one because Ann Fish (dau of James and Lettice) called her son Alexander with Hayhurst as a middle name (well I'm pretty sure just waiting for a bit more info to confirm that).
Have posted a look up request for someone to check that marriage for me if possible but no replies as yet.
Thanks :)

Hi,
I think these are the ones you are looking for (1851):
HO107/2259 (Blackburn East)
Folio 52 49 Ainsworth St
Richard FISH, Boarder, 9, Scholar, Blackburn
Ann FISH, Boarder, 5, Scholar, Blackburn
Letitia FISH, Boarder, 2, Scholar, Blackburn
[Boarding with KENYON family]
I have extensive data about the Darwen FISH families so do get back to me if your researches move in this direction.
Glenn Taylor
(Bristol & ex-Darwen)
PS. I don't check this board often and I'm better emailed via:

Thanks Glenn! I will get in touch if I should go in a Darwen direction. To be honest I've not been doing family history research for a couple of months, been tied up with other things but when I get back to it I'll be in touch if I need your help :)

Hi Sharon,
No problem.
For what it's worth, I can confirm that James & Lettice are NOT in Darwen in the 1841 Census (as I have extracted all the FISH from all the Darwen censuses). I haven't extracted FISH from 1841 Blackburn Census because the lack of relationships and birthplaces makes it a lot of effort for little gain that can be confirmed.
Changing focus...
There is a VARLEY/FISH connexion in Darwen in 1871:
Sarah VARLEY (b.~1792) with daughter Hannah FISH nee VARLEY (b.~1816).
I am also in email contact with someone pursuing Darwen COTTAM family lines.
Regards,
Glenn

Hi Sharon
The only Lettice Fish in the 1841 census is 13 years old & in a huge family group.
I tried all the other names / ages & possible misspellings / mistranscriptions in the name index & NADA.
Sorry :(

Sandra,
I suspect that the 1841 Lettice that you found is the one in Darwen.
At the risk of sounding like I'm giving egg-sucking advice, did you try Laetitia as well as Letitia?
Cheers,
Glenn
