I have a marriage which took place at St Peters, Leeds in 1627. The groom is from Headingley and the bride is from Chriustall. I am having the greatest difficulty finding anywhere that remotely resembles Chriustall - anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Emeltom

Maybe Kirkstall, not to far from Headingley :)

Hi,
Kirkstall maybe?? N.W. suburb of Leeds.

Kirkstall was my first thought too, and I gather it was sometimes rendered "Churchstall" around the time of the Civil War, which seems closer to the version you've got.

Many thanks for the speedy replies.

I found the marriage on FreeReg and they have it as Chriustall. I haven't seen an image of the actual register to see exactly what it says.

Thanks for the link, Brian. I wasn't aware of those transcriptions. Looks like I may be busy for a while!

It helps when I live local of course!

Does give you an advantage when you know the area, I suppose. Thanks again.
