Hi Timmies
If you are looking at the Norfolk family then I have done some research on them and the Norton family.
How did you trace back to James and Rebecca?

Hello Barbara I heard about James and Rebecca through a distend family member that I cant get a hold of and have been trying for a few years now. Thanks for any info you have gave me.

Hi Timmies
In order to help you further I think we need to know how you came to be researching William Norton b about 1819 so that we have a firm basis for the research and don't go chasing the wrong family.
Is William your direct ancestor? What concrete information do you have for him eg a marriage or death certificate, census information?
Let me know and I will dig out what I have.
Barbara
PS Wiiliam Fielding, James Norton's brother in law emigrated to Canada in 1848.

Hello Barbara I had started with my mother Georgina and her parents were George Charles Norton and Elsie Phillips, Charles born Dec 21 1919 passed in Salmon Arm BC his parents are Harold E G Norton born 1889 -1970 Ethel Bessie Tripp born 1892 - 1960 my mom told me about her grandparents then Harold's parents are William Arnott Norton born 1853 -1932 Lousia McLean the William's parents are William Norton born about 1819 and Marth Arnott born 1825, Then my mom's cousin gave me William born about 1819 his parents James born 1790 and Rebecca Parke born 1796 and said they had 7 children then James remarried and had 2 children from second marriage. Now I cant get a hold of my mom's cousin. So now I figure I would reach out here for some help and William that married Martha states on his marriage record I found that he is of Scottish descent.
Thank you again Barbara

Hi Timmies
William Norton was baptised on 13 November in Scoulton Norfolk. His parents were james and Rebecca and his father was recorded as farmer.
I have found 4 full siblings for him.
Caroline bap 20 Mar 1814
Amelia Bap 25 Dec 1819
John bap 14 Oct 1821
Mary Anne bap 5 Sep 1824.
All of these children are named in the will of James Norton who died 18 February 1855 aged 64 according to his headstone in Scoulton. The headstone also commemorates his second wife Elizabeth who died 28 Jan 1878 aged 72. James left each of these children £5 saying he wishes it could be more.
James Norton first married Rebecca Parke on 15 Sept 1812 She died on 17 May 1831 according to her headstone and was buried on 31 May 1831.
James married his second wife Elizabeth on 6 March 1832.
This marriage resulted in 3 children James, Alban and Alfred.
I cannot find William Norton in England after the 1841 census.
Some of these details have been posted already.
William's uncle by marriage, William Fielding, whose 1st wife was Berthalina, Norton James' sister, emigrated to Canada in 1848 with his second wife and their family. He lived first in Quebec and then in Ontario. I wonder if his nephew travelled with him?
I have had a quick look on family search and William Norton is on the 1881census. You can view the image on there for free. His wife is not Martha so maybe she was his 1st wife. Would be a good idea to look up William on all the Canadian censuses to follow him through. Family search provides transcripts.
I would also buy a copy of William's marriage certificate.
Will provide more on James' parents and sibling later

Further information.
James Norton was the oldest son of William Norton and his wife Mary Rushbrook He was bap in Scoulton 29 Aug 1790 in Saham Toney. I have found 6 siblings.
William bap 23 Jun 1793 Thuxton
Berthalina bap18 Jan 1795 Thuxton
Ann bap 20 Oct 1796 Thuxton
John bap 31 Aug 1800 Thuxton
Joseph bap 27 Jun 1802 Thuxton
Thomas bap 27 Jun 1802 Thuxton
Berthalina as already mentioned was the wife of William Fielding. She was buried 5 May 1835 in Scoulton. She is my husband's ancestor.
William Norton married Mary Rushbrook 2 May 1787 at Hardingham. Mary died in Scoulton 1 Jan 1831. Her MI reads "In memory iof Mary the wife of William Norton who departed this life January 1 1831 aged 68 years"
William died 28 Jun 1835 in Scoulton. His MI reads "Sacred to the memory of William Norton who departed this life June 28th aged 80 years".
William left a will. His son William was the sole beneficiary and an executor. The only other child mentioned was his son John who was an executor of the will together with his brother.
I believe William Norton to be the son of John and Norton bap at West Bradenham 3 May 1756. William is named in John's will. John was buried 2 Apr 1774 in West Bradenham. His wife Ann was was buried thee 29 Apr 1786. In her will Ann names her youngest son William as the sole beneficiary and Exector.
I still need to work on William's siblings.
Hope this is of some use to you. Any queries do let me know.

Hello Barbara would you be able to copy the wills for James Norton and William Norton and send them to me ?
Would you also be able to send me links to your sources?
Please and thank you. You have been so much help to me thanks again I really appreciate you taking your time in helping me.
-
Thanks for those links PB. I shall have a look at them.
Timmies my sources are as follows:
All the Parish register details are from images of the PRs or the BTs.
The MIs are from The Mid Norfolk MI Transcripton Database and I have also checked them against a typewritten list of the MIs in Scoulton churchyard produced in 1971.
The Wills are photocopies from the Norfolk Record Office and are not to be copied without their permission. If you look at the Norfolk RO catalogue you can search for the wills and you can order copies.
The will refs are:
William Norton ANW 1835 fo 102 no.84
James Norton NCC Whitty 509
John Norton ANF774 no 30 fo 30
Ann Norton ANF fo 430 1786 no 45
I found out the dates of William Fielding emigrating to Canada from Press Reports in the Norfolk News dated 9 March 1850.
Hope this covers everything. Many images of PRs and BTs and some wills are available online on Ancestry, FindMyPast and family search.
I will be interested to hear what you have found from then Canadian censuses.

Thank you Barbara when I get to my genealogy bin I will send you some of the info I do have but believe it or not I have more I believe on the Arnott than I do on the Norton's because the Norton's seem to be hush hush about everything as I was told that the Norton's had to hide because the natives were being killed off back in the day so that's why they keep everything quiet.
Thanks again
