Title: St Catherine's Church, Cemetery, Birkenhead
Post by: Kevin Sutton Bole on Monday 14 October 19 15:22 BST (UK)
Could anyone help me with finding the cemetery, where my ancestors could be buried.
The family name would be Spargo.

John Thomas Spargo died in Bebington 24th December 1899 and was buried on the 27th.
He married Florence Alice Gardiner Smith in 1890.

Florence remarried to James Atherton Downham,
they were married at St. Catherine's on the 29th January 1902

Could the cemetery still be in existence or was it bombed during WW2 and details lost ?
Also  the interned moved?

Thank you.

According to the 1899 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/331919/387175/12/100492 St. Catherine's Church did not have a cemetery/graveyard.

He was buried, according to the Register, in the Parish of Bebington 27 November 1899 aged 35. Abode given as Tranmere.

I believe the Parish Church in Bebington is St Andrews.

My mistake for typing December !!

I only have knowledge of Hubert, Percy and Marjorie.

Did Cyril die in infancy ?

Yes John Thomas was born in 1864 in Plymouth.

I have knowledge of the will he left to Florence.

Florence was my Great-Grandmother.

Could anyone help me with finding the cemetery, where my ancestors could be buried.
The family name would be Spargo.

Kevin the family are buried at St Andrews Church, Bebington. (As previous posts)

They are buried in Section D No. 302.  The headstone was removed in 1968.

In the plot are:
John Spargo, Ann Spargo, Cyril Edmund Spargo, John Thomas Spargo, Elizabeth Spargo & Alfred Spargo.
Hope that helps.

Thank you Colin,
This information is very interesting, as we had an idea that there was a Spargo family plot
and now we know the location.

My Grandmother was the daughter of Florence Alice Gardiner Spargo and her second husband
James Atherton Downham.

I am still searching for the burial place of Florence Alice Downham, the name given on her death certificate in 1925 - she died in Smithdown Road Institution as it was called then.
The logical place would be Toxteth Park Cemetery, though present family members ie my mother and my aunt think she could be in a Downham family plot ?

I can only see one person with the surname Downham buried in Toxteth Park in 1925 and that is a 32 yr old spinster called Lily.

Thanks Emeltom,

Florence was 59/60 years of age when she died.
