Looking for a marriage for an Alfred Wilson born 26 Dec 1915 mother’s maiden name Bailey father was William Wilson. He died 1988. I can’t pin down a correct marriage ??? ::) thanks
-
Impossible to tell from limited info. 5 possibilities from 1939 - 1946
You could buy a copy of his death cert to see who reported his death - possibly his wife
Or check if he left a will. https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
-
He’s still living with his mother on the 1939 register sadly.
-
If you give us more detail and locations for the events you have found then it would help to narrow down the search. There is no point in people duplicating the work you have already done.
-
Given there are 5 possible marriages from 1939 - 1946. If he died 1988 are there any living nieces and nephews who remember him and may be able to provide info?
You could check the obits for 1988 at the RO
Or - as suggested in my reply - death cert
-
Unfortunately there’s no relatives I’m aware of all of the family I know are deceased sadly.
All I know is he was born 26 Dec 1915 and was a shell worker in 1939 living on George Rd Newcastle upon Tyne apologies should have added that in. I believe he died 1988 but I could be wrong.
His father was a William Wilson and he must have died prior to 1939 as Margaret is listed as a widow.
Margaret’s maiden name was Bailey and her middle name Stephenson. That’s pretty much all I know.
Thank you

Where does he fit into your FH

Alfred Wilson d age 72 Feb 1988 Newcastle Upon Tyne
b 26 Dec 1915
Volume: 2 Page: 997

As CaroleW suggested his death certificate may help
Checking the Electoral Register using his last known address to see if he was still living there in later years
-
As others have said, if you give as much info as you know it does help others to help you.
The death registration posted by Ladyhawk is quite possible. IF he was born in Newcastle there are two possible birth registrations for a child of that name as you have 6 weeks in which to register a birth
Q4 1915, MMN Backhouse
Q1 1916 MMN Bailey
There is a death notice for a man of this name which would match the death reg posted. Newcastle Evening Chronicle 18 Feb 1988. Can't transcribe it fully in here as it mentions family members and we are not allowed on Rootschat to name or discuss anyone who may still be alive.
Fenham Silver Lonnen, died 16 Feb, aged 72. Funeral was at English Martyrs RC Church and buried Elswick Cemetery. He was married, had children and grandchildren.
If you are in the area Newcastle Library have these newspapers on microfilm.

OP says mmn was Bailey but who was Fenham Silver Lonnen who you say died 16 Feb 1988
-
The death notice was for an Alfred Wilson - which matches the death registration Ladyhawk posted with date of birth, month registered, year of registration, district of registration and both first name and surname.
Fenham Silver Lonnen is the area of Newcastle he had lived in.

Morning guys, for some reason my last post last night hasn’t posted but I can’t recall what I had typed. You guys are great! I’ve managed to find them on the Electoral roll in Silver Lonnen so I now know who he married.
It’s so hard I try to follow my gut as much as I can but with having no relatives to ask i always doubt myself and have on a couple of occasions researched the wrong stems so it is nice to be able to find that I am sometimes going in the right direction with a little help. Thank you.
That is definitely the correct marriage, the baileys have a very complicated family tree from what I’ve found. I’d love to know what actually went on back in the day. Margaret was basically my great great grandmothers sister.

he he, come on, I know I am not exactly the brightest penny in the purse but even I am not going to search for something for Alfred Wilson and then give info about some random, unusual name and say There is a death notice for a man of this name which would match the death reg posted

Burial Record for Alfred Wilson at Elswick Cemetery is available on family search:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSJN-V96G-T?i=592&cat=828351
I checked the graves register in the hope that his wife may be buried with him, but no mention of her in that grave and I can't see her name in the index.

If you are in the area and want to check to see IF there is a headstone, Elswick Cemetery is large. The section map should give you a starting point to find grave 540 in Section R

This is great! Was this just the archives at the city library? I must try and get there next week. Is it easy enough to understand most things? If that’s not too silly a question.
It seems they lived around that area as they lived at Back George St too.
I wonder if the Thomas was my great great grandfather I’ve often wondered if him and William were brothers as Margaret’s sister Mary Elizabeth married Thomas Wilson. So I’m technically searching two stems of Wilson’s just to confuse matters even more. Their mother was a nightmare too.
Funny he should be buried there half the family are! I may have to just take a trip and try and find his grave. Thank you so much.

You are welcome Claravale. :)
I found the marriage & burial at Tyne and Wear Archives. However, it will also be possible to view the burial at the Newcastle City Library too - they have loads of burial registers on microfilm.
You will be able to find his site but remember not everyone has a grave stone - I think overall most don't.
The Archives are open Tues- Fri 10-4 and the library is open from 10 am late night Tuesday & Thursday til 7 pm.

By the way - do you know about the Marriage Locator website - this is a great resource to sometimes be able to find where these old marriages took place in the Newcastle area especially. :)
Added: It is easy to understand things at the library and archives. However, the staff are very helpful especially if you let them know you are new and might need some help. I was a bit daunted when I first stepped foot in the archives but it is easy to soon pick things up. :)

Thank you so much, I’ve not heard of that site so will give it a go thank you.
A couple of years ago we decided to try and find my great grandfathers grave we knew roughly where abouts it could be (in Heaton cemetery). I rang the civic and they said there was a headstone but it might not necessarily be his. As it happens his daughter is buried in the same grave, they both died the same year, and another person was buried last. It is her headstone on the grave, they arranged for someone to meet us and show us exactly where it is, I came home and traced the lady to figure it and basically she was married to a descendant of Margaret’s brother (off the top of my head) I traced a relative who just happened to be friends and neighbours with the granddaughter of my great aunt who was buried in the grave first and they had no idea!
Amazing what you can find out. William would be buried not too far away from him either.
My mum can briefly recall knowing ‘Wilson’s’ as she put it growing up but cannot remember who or where they were from.
