I have the death of a Hugh Owen who died 17th November 1924 in Stanley Hospital Liverpool Would like information if possible as to where Hugh might have been buried If there is an electoral roll for this time showing where he might have lived. Also if maybe there might be an obituary in a paper for the area. Asking a lot , but I am completely out of my depth with this one . Hugh is my grandfather. Regards Eirwen

Are you sure you have the correct year for the death only I cannot find a Death Registration for a Hugh Owen in 1924. There is one in December 1922 for a 58 year old and one in December 1923 for a 45 year old, but nothing in 1924.

There is nothing in the Liverpool Echo in the Obits for that year :-\

Thanking everyone for the prompt reply. My mistake the year was 1923 15th November The death certificate was received for Liverpool inquest. My mistake was reading the death certificate wrongly It was registered on the 15th. Eirwen

Liverpool Electoral Registers are online at Ancestry, if you have a sub or can get to a library which allows library members to access it from the library pcs .
There seems to be quite a few Hugh Owens in the electoral registers for 1921+/- 2 years. Do you have names of other family members which may help to pin him down?
Do you know what religion he was?
Do you have any information about his wife/widow, when she died and where was she buried?
All the above may help to find out where he was and 'hopefully' lead to his burial place. I am sure we can look but will need some more information first.

My Hugh Owen moved his family from north wales to Pontypridd in south wales when the slate mine owner sacked all his workers Hugh married Elizabeth Ann Owen who died giving birth to a daughter also called Elizabeth Ann in 1908 Their 1st child John then moved and worked we were told in Liverpool also Hugh his father went to Liverpool. This is all we have to go on. So if a burial entry may be located it might give us further information.

The info you have is rather sketchy, do you not have Hugh and his family on any census records?
Its not clear how you know that this death cert you have is for 'your' Hugh Owen.
I've looked at electoral registers and there's nothing obvious turning up to identify which of the couple of dozen Hugh Owen entries could be your man.
I checked the church burial registers and again nothing looking likely.
Its highly likely he was buried in a municipal cemetery , best suggestion I have is for you (if you are in the area) is to go to Liverpool Library and look through each of the municipal cemetery registers for the relevant dates to see if you can spot him.

Is his usual address not on the death certificate? Most likely in the the occupation column, "Of......."
Just dug up my g-g grandfather's cert from 1926. Died in hospital. Informant was the Coroner. Under Rank or Profession is his address as well as occupation.

The archives do seem to have some inquest papers and records

Records of the Liverpool Coroner including inquest registers, indexes, court diaries and inquest papers. There is also material relating to the 193-1945 war and the the Hendersons Fire inquest, 1960 as well as newspaper cuttings.
1892 - 1974
Access will be granted to any accredited reader, although permission is required to view the inquest papers. Please note that the inquest registers are available on microfilm only.
I have no experience of these records therefore no idea what sort of info the registers contain, but if you can visit its worth a shot at looking at them.

No I checked that transcripts for Toxteth and got very excited at the notice that said Liverpool Archives have told the site owner that Ancestry are transcribing the municipal burials registers. No date but I'll be keeping my eyes open for them :-)

There's a number of websites with burial inscriptions I can't find anything on them so if he was buried in Liverpool there's unlikely to be a gravestone. He may have been returned to Wales for burial. Here are various links for Liverpool cemetery gravestone inscriptions. Burial records are online for Bootle, Toxteth and Walton Park so we can eliminate them. Possibly in an unmarked grave in one of these cemeteries or else buried in Wales:-

As the Stanley Hospital is in Kirkdale is it possible he was buried near there?
