Hello,
I've been researching my family's history for some time however I cannot seem to get any further than my great great grandparents.
All I know about them is from a marriage record from St Patrick's Church in Cork City which gives their names, where they were living at the time of marriage (Bird's Quay), the date of marriage (1862) and the witness's names.
I have checked the names of the witnesses and neither of them appear to be related to either of my great great grandparents.
I'd really love to learn where they originally came from and about their lives but I have no more information to work with.
Would anyone know someone that I could contact about possible tips on where else I could look for more information as it seems that as the records go back, less and less information is recorded?
Thank you in advance.
Dee

I suggest you begin with Irish Genealogy Toolkit for advice, tips and explanation of resources.
https://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com
Civil registration of births, Catholic marriages and deaths began 1864. Civil registration of other marriages began 1845.
Welcome to the frustrations of researching Irish ancestors.

If you were looking for Smith.....you then have 34 Marriages to look at
Sometimes Year Range filter doesn't restrict years....so click 1800's folder and you can select Decade!

Civil registrations are on the same website posted by hallmark. If your 2xgreat-grandparents had children in Ireland 1864 or later their births should have been registered, although not all were in the early years. Entry in register shows place of birth, father's residence and occupation, and mother's maiden name. Beware, some parents gave incorrect date of birth, so if you can't find a matching baptism, search baptism register(s) for a few weeks before official birth-date.

Hi Hallmark,
Thank you for your help. I have had a look on IrishGenealogy.ie church records and civil records but it doesn't bring anything up that could be my great great grandfather.
When I search a baptism record for my great great grandmother over a 4 year period, it brings up hundreds of records so I have no idea how to narrow it down as I don't know where she originally came from.

Hi Maiden Stone,
I have birth records for their children who were all born in Bird's Quay and the youngest in School Lane but I am interested in finding where they lived before they married and who their families were.

Hi Hallmark,
Unfortunately I don't know her father's name as there are no parents names on their marriage record.
