"Generally useful" was recorded as the occupation, in a census record, for the 20 year old daughter. 😂
Just wondering what other unusual or odd occupations people have come across?

My favourite is a collateral ancestor, William Dowdeswell, who put "here under sufferance" on the 1881 census I think it was from memory.

"Generally useful" was recorded as the occupation,
Better than finding "Generally useless" ;D

The 1911 Census turns up some oddities. As the sheet was filled in by (or on behalf of) the householder rather than an enumerator there are some instances of "irritated parent syndrome". My favourite in my tree includes:
(********) head, 54, solicitor
(********), son, 25, solicitor trainee
(********), son, 23, idler
