Title: Robert Champley 1878, Missing from Census
Post by: nomie on Sunday 29 September 19 19:17 BST (UK)
I have a Robert Champley born Eastington Durham in sept 1878.
He is on the 1911 Census as a coal miner in Prudhoe but can not find him on the 1901 1891 or 1881 census.
He is not John Robert or the Robert born in wingate.
His death is 1928 but can not find parents or census anywhere!
He was married to Eleanor Turner in 1902. Any help would be wonderful thank you

I don't have his wedding certificate that will be my next move. Was just wondering if you brilliant investigators could see something I couldn't first

If he is the Easington one could this be his birth
CHAMPLEY, ROBERT  (No mothers maiden name listed - presumably illegitimate)     -
1878  Sept Quarter in EASINGTON  Volume 10A  Page 433

Yes thats his birth. Did they show the mothers maiden name this early? Though is he is registered with that name at birth and still has it in 1911, why doesn't he show up in any census in between? Raised by some one else maybe and then reclaimed the name?

Maybe he was not James Shaw's son.  His birth was registered as Champley.

Here is Elizabeth in 1871
