Title: Ballam
Post by: Aynn on Friday 27 September 19 14:53 BST (UK)
Hi
I know this a very long shot but I am looking for info on a picture that was sent to me, it was of my father and I am guessing he was maybe in his twenties. He is with a young girl but no one knows who she was.  If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Hello Aynn,

Is your father deceased? If so, when & also where was he born?

We are not permitted to name the living on this forum. Is there a chance the young lady may still be alive?

Would this be the death of your father?

2002/13186   Ballam   William Hawkesby   29 January 1931

Where was he living around the time you think the photograph may have been taken?

Looks like there may have been 2 gents with the name in reply #2.  One lived in the Hauraki electoral roll area in 1954 and 1957.

minniehaha, I had observed there was an older one, but hadn't pursued that line of research to separate the ER entries.  ;)

Is the photograph an ordinary snapshot? Or does it have a photographer's stamp on the reverse?

Added:

Possibly taken at a wedding? Confetti in the young lady's hair?

I was thinking a dance, as the rolled up sleeves might have been a bit too informal for a wedding - ??

Paeroa would fit the Hauraki area in the electoral rolls.

Maybe to help narrow down the time period, when did your father marry?

Maybe someone here would know in general if there were dances in the area or at a long shot recognise part of the building the photo was taken in front of:
https://www.nzmuseums.co.nz/collections/3135/paeroa-district-historical-society-museum

They say "This museum carries an extensive photographic display and complete issues of the Paeroa Gazette from 1896 to 1996, as well as supporting books and magazines, and its own annual publication The Ohinemuri Regional Historical Journal. "

[Note The Ohinemuri Journal they speak about only started in 1964 http://www.ohinemuri.org.nz/journals/9-journal-1-june-1964 ]
