Hello,
Is anybody who will be at London Metropolitan Archives able to have a search through the records there for me? I am trying to find a baptism for my Great Great Grandad who was supposedly born in St Giles area of London in September 1877 (Thomas Henry Trott). I got this information from his Navy record, but I haven't been able to find him in the birth index registry which is why I am hoping to find a baptism record instead.
The navy record also states his parents as Thomas Henry and Alice.. but I haven't been able to find a marriage or anything for anyone matching those names in the right areas/years so it would be good if the parish marriage records could also be looked at??
And perhaps if any other Trotts are baptised in the years around 1877 there they could be his siblings. There is a birth index registry for a Walter Trott born in St Giles but his parents aren't called Thomas or Alice.
I am at a blank finding out anything about Thomas before 1903 or his family so this would be a great help!!
National archives states the St Giles Parish Records are held at LMA but i'm not sure of the exact reference numbers for the Parish Baptism & Marriage records and don't know how to find out!

Do you have him on the 1911 census, if so could you please post details

On the 1911 Census he is assumed to be away at Sea, as his wife and their children are alone on the 1911 census but she is listed as married.
I have his marriage certificate in 1903 in Southampton (to his wife Bertha), his Navy record from 1904, their children's births in the registry index, wife+children on the 1911 census, Thomas death index in 1936 and his wife and children in 1939.
I can post or private message copies of the records if allowed

Thank you, I had wondered if he married Bertha Lynch

You say that his navy record shows his father as Thomas Henry, does his marriage cert say the same? What job did his dad do and is he still alive in 1903?

St Giles in the Field registers are online at Ancestry and there are no Trotts there in the 5 years around 1877
Hello,
I am trying to find a baptism for my Great Great Grandad who was supposedly born in St Giles area of London in September 1877 (Thomas Henry Trott).
Which record(s) support this supposition?
EDIT: Sorry just seen it's his Navy racord

Should be on the Tagus (official number 110197), as per his naval reserve record, left Southampton for West Indies 15.2.11. Stayed on that for a bit. Looks like he was a fireman (stoker)
A relevant crew list or two may be at Southampton.
The TNA image viewer now enables us to see rather more of his records than previously

Not sure how to "close" this request, but I have now found his birth and so don't need his baptism looked up at the archives.. he was actually born Thomas Henry THROPP. Which I have confirmed is the correct person with all the relevant records and my Ancestry DNA matches. Thank you everyone who has replied to this post :)
