Title: Lawrence Leaf
Post by: EllaLees on Saturday 21 September 19 12:42 BST (UK)
Hi
I am trying to find information on a distant relative Lawrence Leaf ( born 1916 England, married 1940 to Edna Mulcaster, moved to Australia 1951, separated or divorced not long after that ) Did he remarry? Last known address Australian electoral rolls 1980 War veterans home Narrabeen (Sydney NSW, Australia) . Is there anywhere, where I can find details or if they are accessible, where war veterans are buried?
Thanks

Record of Immigrant arrival

https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/BasicSearch.aspx

LEAF Lawrence born 5 October 1916; Edna May (nee Mulcaster) born 29 October 1918; L…(birth date)   V…(birth date) travelled per ORMONDE departing UK on 11 June 1951 under the Ex-servicemens Free Passage Scheme

No others of the surname LEAF share the address of Lawrence LEAF on the NSW Electoral Roll from 1958 to 1980.

One of the children may have been in Queensland in 1963 as a person of the correct name appears on the Electoral roll in that state.

I can't find a funeral or death notice for him. Nor a burial.

You might have to obtain a copy of his death cert. should state where he was buried.

You could purchase the official transcription,  it has same info as the real deal certificate, is not near as expensive.  If you think there could have been a second marriage, one of the questions the informant needs to provide answers to includes when and where married, name of the spouse, and names/ages of the children of each marriage.

Thanks for the info everyone, I have purchased the transcript but will take a couple weeks to come
I have another question as I’m a bit stumped on

In 1977 & 1980 in the Aust electoral rolls he is in a veterans home but I can’t find any details that he served. The 2 records that come up in the UK don’t match the time line / dates for my Lawrence Leaf  & there’s nothing in the Aus records

Would their be a reason his details aren’t coming up ??
Thanks for your help

Lawrence came out to Australia under a veteran's free passage scheme as well as lived in a veteran's home in his last years.

Not sure how your UK records work - you may need to check with some experienced searchers there.

If you search the NAA for the children who came over from England you'll find someone by the same name mentioned in Brisbane (and with a married name) http://www.naa.gov.au/ .
QLD public marriage records seem to cut out dismally early though.

Then she appears a couple of time on the QLD electoral roll under her married name. I don't have good enough access to that from home to see whether hubby also appears. If you had his name you could take a punt at finding them in the telephone book at whitepages.com.au.
