Hello.
I have come up against a brickwall with my great grandmother Elizabeth Tunney.
On the 1871 census she was aged 9 living with her aunty and uncle in Wallasey as Elizabeth Benyon born in Steynton Pembrokeshire in 1864. On her marriage certificate in 1882 ( I think ) her father is named as George Benyon ( deceased ). I appreciate the name Benyon may have many different spellings. Can anyone point me in the right direction as I can find no further trace of her or her mother and father in Steynton.
Regards,
David

She married Hugh Tunney June qtr 1883 www.freebmd.org.uk
If she was aged 9 in 1871 then she would have been b 1861/62 not 1864
Edit
She is aged 8 in 1871

Have you looked for her relatives marriage to see if her aunt was nee Benyon?. You will find it on freebmd in 1868 and surname spelt as Beynon
There are births in Pembrokeshire for Elizabeth Beynon and Elizabeth Ann in 1861/1862/1863 on freebmd but nothing for Benyon
Have you looked for a death/marriage for a George Benyon/Beynon
Suggest you use aunt Margaret Sherlock as your research to see if she had a brother George

Steynton came under the Haverfordwest RD so this birth may be her
March qtr 1863 Elizabeth Beynon Haverfordwest 11a 722 mmn Griffith

On 1871 census Elizabeth has the middle initial M ??

I am wondering if this is her??
Baptism page 59 entry 472
8 Feb 1863
St Katherine Milford in the Parish of Steynton Pembrokeshire
Mary Elizabeth daughter of Elizabeth Benyon
occ Servant
Address Pill
Minister T Brigstocke
Aunt Margaret (who Elizabeth M was staying with in 1871)'s maiden name was Benyon
I cannot find a brother named George but could Elizabeth be her sister
If Mary Elizabeth was illegitimate it may be that she was told her father was named George
I will look into this further

1851 for aunt Margaret has no brother George but does have 3 sisters aged 16/14/8
Elizabeth was the 16yr old so would be around 27 when dtr was born
1851 shows family address as Village of Pill

Being illegitimate - Elizabeth jnr may have used her uncle George's christian name when she married. Many illegitimate children made up a fathers name when they married to appear "respectable"

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond. There are lots of leads to look at there.
I should know better than to assume all information on censuses and even on marriage certificates are entirely accurate.
Its interesting that trish has Elizabeth Benyon on a census aged 50 ( obviously not the one Im looking for but there must surely be a connection because my Elizabeth Benyon was staying with her aunty and uncle on the Wirral in 1871whose name was Sherlock, same name as William on the 1891 census.
As the saying goes: there are more questions than answers.
Thanks once again to you all. Lot more work to do but that's how it is.

Elizabeths age is just out in 1891 Census otherwise all info matches.

The 50yr old Elizabeth is the mother of the younger Elizabeth so she is your Great Great Grandmother
