Good evening,
Can anyone help with the following please ?
Harriet Yates nee Carmichael is on the 1911 census states she has had 8 children born, 3 living at the time of the census and 5 deceased. We have worked out that she had at least one child before she was married which died. All that we have found are buried in Hedon Road Cemetery. Her husband was called Robert William Yates. Altogether we have discovered 3 deceased children and are missing 2.
Can anyone help with locating them or have an idea of how to locate them.
The deceased children we have found are
Elsie C Carmichael
Gertrude Yates
James William Yates
Thanks in advance

You’re missing dates - when was the marriage, and what are the birth/death dates of the known children?

What do you know about Gertrude? I can see one in Hull who dies in infancy in 1883 (likely twin of an Ethel who also dies in infancy) but mmn is Smith.

I have birth and death certs for Gertrude dob 1895 died 1896
The child born before she married was Elsie C Carmichael again have birth and death certs
The new name not seen before is William Henry Yates so he could be one, missing one more

I think he is one of the missing children. Thank you for your help.
One more to go. I'm looking on Yorkshire bmd but no luck on the 8th yet

Who is the James age 7 with her in 1911.
Included he would be the 8th child, I cannot find a registration as yet

Hi I’m the posters cousin and we are trying to solve this together. On census 1911james is mentioned as son but he is her grandson. We have birth death and burial records for James born 1910 and he is the actually the son of her Annie Elizabeth. He is Harriets grandson. This census is where it was discovered she had had 8 children. We knew Harriet, Annie, James, Frances and Gertude along with Elsie born and died premarriage. Giving us 3 living and 3 passed away. Today I’ve ordered the birth and death for William Henry found above. My grandmother was Frances Ellen third born daughter.
I’m wondering if a child is stillborn is the child registered as both birth and death or only as death?
Regards

I seem to think that sadly a stillbirth would not be registered at all, there would only be a burial record.
Have you tried the GRO index which is now searchable for births 1837-1918 and deaths 1837-1957?

Yes thanks we’ve spent hours on it year by year covering Carmichael and Yates I’ve done over 20 years 1880 to 1900

I’m thinking a stillbirth could be a possibility.
