My Great Grandfather's birth certificate, 1865 tells me that he was born at Union Villas. Union Road. West Cowes. Recently returned from a holiday on the island and strolled down Union Road. Couldn't find any evidence of where this actually was. Does anyone know where perhaps I may be able to check a street directory for that year? Thank you.

This map from 1863 will give you an idea of what was there, though it doesn't show "Union Villas" in particular.

Have you done a search for that address in the censuses?

I did fiind the address in the 1871 census but nothing for 1861. I am supposing that it may have been built 1861-1865 possbly.

There is this burial record (from 1919, so much later) where the address is "Union Villas, Terminus Rd". Perhaps Union Villas was on the corner of Union Rd and Terminus Rd?

On the 1871 census where you have found the address, what are the addresses of the houses on either side of it?
