I was wondering if what this lady is wearing is some kind of uniform or if it has some kind of meaning?
The cross is obvious, but I was wondering about the items around.
She appears in a family CDV album. Potentially she may have had links with the Unitarian Church.
Her name was "Mrs Strong," but I have no further information about her.

Other than the cross the
items such as the fastening at her waist are just what was fashionable at the time .
Being connected with The Unitarian Church ,you could imagine the Cross was a statement of her belief.
A nice clear photograph .

How fascinating. I see that you say she is called Mrs. Strong and my grandmother's maiden name was Strong. Equally interesting to see that the photographer had a studio in Clifton which is in Bristol which is where my grandmother was born.
May be no connection but one does wonder ::)

Many kind and thanks for the responses.
Out of curiosity I spent some time trying to zoom as much as I could on the "belt," and there appears to be an image of one (possibly two) men on a horse and I can just about make out a word that looks like "Trinity."
I say the lady is not related, but I have thought that about others in the album, only for them in time to eventually turn up on the tree. So I shall keep searching for her and see what turns up.

I wonder if the image could be St George and the dragon.

Or St Martin, who is said to have used his sword to divide his cloak, giving one half to a beggar? It's a familiar image but I can't easily do links with this phone.
