Title: Finding 1939 Register scans
Post by: MacGrigor on Friday 30 August 19 14:00 BST (UK)
Hello,

I’ve been viewing transcripts on FindMyPast, but I’d like to see the actual scans. Does anyone know where I can find them? I’m trying to find the dates of birth for Ernest and Alice Scarr, who were living in Aveley in Essex. They both say they were born in 1876 (completely wrong) according to the transcription, although Alice gives the correct day and month. I’m looking to see if they did both say they were born in 1876.

I’d appreciate any help!

Adam

I've found quite a few of my ancestors on the 1939 register where the birth year is a year out, day and month are correct though.

Clearly says 76 on the document, but perhaps whoever they asked was not sure. PM me an email if you would like the image.

So have I! I’ve seen a couple off by a year, but none by 5.

And thanks for that! It’s fine, thanks for the confirmation though. It is strange.

The scans/images are on FindMyPast and Ancestry.

My paternal grandfather got day, month and year of his birth wrong.  ::)

I’ve been viewing transcripts on FindMyPast,

I'm confused - if you can view the transcripts surely you can view the scans as well?  :-\

Are you looking at the Results Page (which gives a brief transcript including year of birth, or the Transcripts Page which gives the full date of birth and occupation).
From the results page click Preview, this takes you to the Transcript or Household transcriptions.
From the Household page click on . to see the Image of the page.
To download the image click Download located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Tip on occasions when the image will not show on the screen (such as when the site is busy) click download and view the image from your download page.

Cheers
Guy

My great great grandma was 5 years out and her partner was 2 years out on the 1939. Another relative had his baptism date as his dob.

I’ve seen the baptism one before too! Except it was on an American death certificate for the brother of a 3x great-grandfather who emigrated.
