Hi :)
I'm trying to find information about James Brindley, married to Mary Pegram (nee Walsh) on 20/1/1838 in Lancashire, England. Both James and Mary's fathers were listed as Farmers on their marriage record. It was witnessed by Catherine Brindley but we don't know if she was a sister/cousin/aunty/other.
James was the father of Mary Brindley (born 1839), Ann Brindley (born 1840) and Richard Prince Brindley (born 1841). All children were born in Salford, Lancashire, England.
James' profession was listed as Traveller on Richard Prince's marriage record to Fanny Laverack on 8/5/1842, a Brewer on Mary's marriage record to Ambrose Gallimore on 23/5/1863 and as a Commercial Clerk on Anne's marriage record to John Hepton on 4/9/1872. (Richard Prince Brindley also became a Brewer).
I would like to find out who James' parents are.
We also know that we are somehow related to James Brindley, the Canal Engineer. We have a photo that was passed to us from my grandmother but we are not sure how our James connects to this James.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance.
Elizabeth

James may be a lot older than we think;

I cant find any of them 1841/1851 Census ::)

Thanks Suz and Trish
I do have those details from his marriage to Mary Pegram but didn't realise the age was 21 years and OVER. I've been looking for his DOB as around 1817.
I had a record of a marriage to another Mary but have misplaced it. What you have seems to fit.
I also have the Census with John being the father-in-law of Catherine Derbyshire's husband and, at first thought that this must have been James' father but the DOB didn't fit. If he was older, then this could very well be him. His mother would then be Frances Mellor.
So, I wonder if this is the right track to keep going down? If it is, I have already found the other records going back.

I may have confused the issue there as M/C has age 21 years, I just thought the + had not been added.
If you look at the Marriage below they are both aged 21 and the Bride is a Widow also.
Just laziness by the Vicar in my opinion.
Also as James was married before and his Wife died 1836 age 29 he would be nearer her age.
This may be Sarah Smiths 1st Marriage;
Marriage: 15 Feb 1834 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Edward Purcell - Mariner, Liverpool
Sarah Smith - Spinster, Liverpool
So she would be older than 21 to have married 1834

In 1851 James, Mary and their 3 children are in Salford transcribed as 'Bindley' on FindMyPast. He is a 'brewers man'.
Son Richard was actually born in 1842.
