Hi everyone,
I am looking for the marriage of an Alfred Schofield b 1903 in Ashton under Lyne, England to Hilda Meers, b 1901 also in Ashton under Lyne, England
Alfred Schofield sailed to Detroit via Canada in April 1923, and was naturalised to the USA on on 10th April 1928.
Hilda Meers sailed to Detroit via Canada in June 1928.
They are both on the 1930 USA census living at what looks like Center Line Road, Detroit, Wayne County. He is a Timber Machinist and they are recorded as being married for two years.
They came back to England in February 1932 with their little girl Amy b July 1931.
We have a picture of Hilda in her wedding dress but have no idea where or when she actually got married to Alfred.
I have searched on Family Search, Ancestry and Family Search to no avail.
Many thanks,
Anne

If he was born 23 Jun 1903 in Manchester,
he was not married when he declared his intention to become a US Citizen, on 10 April 1928 in US District Court, Detroit
He was living at 6557 Carrie Ave, Detroit, at the time and was working as a machine hand.
but the 1928 Detroit City Directory says
Alf (Hilda) Schofield woodworker, home at 7318 Merkel
so it couldn't have been much after his declaration of intention.
Michigan marriages are at familysearch, as you know
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1675359
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1452395
so I searched them myself. Nothing found. I looked in Ontario, Canada, and in Ohio, even back in England. Nothing found.
The marriage record doesn't seem to be at the state archives
https://seekingmichigan.org/about/guides/vital-records
Maybe Wayne County, Michigan, has the record anyway, but somehow it didn't make it to familysearch? Maybe familysearch's data came from the state collection.?
Maybe there was a wedding announcement?
