I have narrowed down my search to 8 records on Scotlands People. How do I go about viewing these records to determine the correct one before I purchase the certificate?
Help!

Hi Empea,
Unless you can attend at one of Scotlands People's Centres in Scotland where if you pay £15 fee you can access all records you will not be able to view these births.
Access to records online is restricted (for privacy reasons) - you can't look online at a birth record which is less than 100 years old , unfortunately.
Looby :)

The only other alternative would be to rely on the goodwill of Rootschatters and request if someone is visiting a Scotlands People Centre they would do you the favour of viewing the entries for you and taking notes. With 8 to view it might be a big ask... You would need to send details of the births by private message.
Sorry I can't oblige ....won't be at an SP centre any time soon.
Looby :)

Looby thank you. I was hoping for an easier solution :( :'(

Sorry, I can't think of one. Maybe someone else might come up with a solution I can't think of :-\
Can you not eliminate any of the births by location?

I have narrowed down my search to 8 records on Scotlands People.
Are you able to narrow those down even more?...
What info. do you have so far on likely Town & County of birth?
Are all the ones you've found, in the same County?
Do you have any relevant info. e.g. on deceased parents which may help?
Where did the parents marry, a likely place your person was born?
Did the person have siblings who may be found on SP in a particular Town/County?
Did the person marry & do you have details of spouse, where/when married which may help with a possible area of birth?

Another resource for families in the Glasgow area is the BMD announcements in the Glasgow Herald. This database goes from about 1806 to 1990. Unfortunately it's only searchable by date.

The Gale archive also has the Herald from about 1820 to 1900 and is searchable by keyword. It's available in many libraries. Some libraries may allow you to login from home.

The Evening Times is also available on the same website if the Birth was possibly in the West of Scotland area
