;D Hi Roots Chatterers,
Hoping someone can enlighten me, as how to interpret RC records from the Dingle Peninsula. These records concern the marriage of my husband's 2 x G'Parents Thomas Shea/O'Shea 1841-1910 and Ellen Mary O'Donnell 1842-? and their children who were baptised there between 1860 in 1873.
I am a little confused as to where they were living at this time as I had been led to believe they were living at Ballintaggert near Dingle but a number of records state Annascaul (one which had Ballintaggert in the last column).
I am more familiar with C of E records from England which can sometimes mislead a person's residence if they are a Bishop's Transcript record which tended to gather all parish records from the surrounding area without distinguishing the parish they came from. Was Annascaul a major repository for records including those who may have been living in Ballitaggert at the time. NB I have a few records of the family that list the place of record as Ballanvohir which I understand is a variant of Annascaul. I understand that Ballintaggert was about 9-30 miles by road East of Annascaul.
I hope this makes sense of my confusion and ignorance to someone from the group. I would so much like to know where the O'Shea family were actually living. I have included some examples of the records.
Crossing my fingers someone will make head or tail of this. ??? Many thanks.
Please note I have been unable to send all attachments -there will be a part 2 and 3.

Have you checked any births after 1864 when civil records began.

A bit more information
https://www.johngrenham.com/places/regdist_results.php?rdid=375&order=placename®ISTRARS_DISTRICT=Annascaul&PLU=Annascaul
Johanna b 18 Jan 1866 shows in Ireland Select Births and Baptisms as ‘Anascaul’ but no image. Presumably that will be the birth record.
Her civil registration is in Reg district Annascaul but birth in ‘Ballintagart’

Probably help to understand just how big the RC parish was
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0647
There are 4 Civil Parishes in the RC parish of Ballanvohir/Annascaul
https://www.johngrenham.com/places/civil_in_rc.php?churchid=0647&county=&church_name=Ballanvohir
Clicking on each Civil Parish will show you have many townlands there are.
Annascaul is the village where the church was Ballintaggart is a townland.

There are two Ballintaggarts on the Dingle peninsula. The one near Dingle has no Shea families in Griffiths, the one near Annascaul has two. See attached

Dear heywood, ;D Sinann, ;D John Falvey, ;D,
You three have made my day if not my week. How incredibly generous you have been. I now have a far better grasp of where the correct Ballintaggert for the O'Shea family was and my husband was able to follow the road East of Annascaul to the correct place on google maps and produce a 3d map of the tiny Townland of Ballintaggert for me to add to ancestry.com to share with all the others researching this line.
In my research over the years I have been helped by many RootsChatters. Many thanks for your kindness in yet another instance.
Kind regards,
Pilgrims Progress
PS- heywood- unfortunately the first link you sent was for something else other than Thomas O'Shea's record of birth. If it is too much to ask, could you please send the correct link as this is my husband's direct ancestor? If you can't I will understand. ;D
