Title: Climer-Snow image from 1858- need confirmed
Post by: Granma Anne on Saturday 17 August 19 15:35 BST (UK)
I have been informed this image is from 1858 - I disagree for several reasons and would like someone to give an estimate of the actual date - big clue as to error is wristwatch on woman.

You are right to discount that date. Nothing about it fits in with 1858. I would guess 1930s.

Thank you Primrose11 -  no he is not a bit happy looking, but then in most of the old photos they never are, are they?

Wrist watches became popular amongst the Officers in the WW1.

    But.........

" The first wristwatch was made for Countess Koscowicz of Hungary by the Swiss watch manufacturer Patek Philippe in 1868, according to Guinness World Records. But the first wristwatch for men is not so easy to pinpoint. "

      " Even Elizabeth 1 had a wrist watch   according to Wikipedia ;D ;D ;D ;D

Elizabeth I of England received a wristwatch from Robert Dudley in 1571, described as an arm watch. By the mid nineteenth century, most watchmakers produced a range of wristwatches, often marketed as bracelets, for women. "

1920s-30s.

Never is it 1858 -she would have been in a crinoline and her hair would be long and worn up and her ears would be covered.

Can we not try to trace them if you have their full names?

I can't be sure, Jennifer, but I would have thought the names that the OP has would be for someone alive circa 1858, and that's  about 65 years too early.

Find a grave has her born 1869 and dying 1939

The photo doesn't appear to fit with the dates, she looks too young.

could she be in her early 50s  :-\

Re ages, I think the woman is in her early twenties, and the man could be later twenties or older.

Added:
Granma Anne, your 'avatar' is quite worrying!  I have a small money spider building its web on the wall just above my computer screen (not a great site in my view, but I'm not interfering), and I thought for one moment that he/she had a competitor on my screen.

Well, the FindaGrave info, that I gave the link to in Reply #7,  is definitely her and the photo that accompanies it is the same pic.  This suggests that either the photo is mis-identified or that she's very young for her age.

I think I put her 20s-30, Igor, so if 1920s-1930, born circa 1900.

Igor - I've got some lovely spiders' webs on the outside of this window - the window cleaner only came on Tuesday!

I'd not clicked on the link, Gadget, now I see what you mean.

I think this larger version of the photograph on the FindaGrave site is more revealing.
In the small version, you could think that it's an older woman, with a  'young' style haircut (or indeed possibly a wig)

On the large version here:
No sign of smile lines or any other wrinkles
Smooth complexion.

If she's in her sixties, then any info about the moisturiser she's been using?   ;)

Re the spiders, coming into Spider season now.  Unexpectedly met two large house spiders who had to be helped outside via the standard glass/card method.  The little one on the wall has now developed a secondary site involving anchoring to my computer wires.  Really not sure what it's going to catch there, but probably a warm site.

But then I thought this old family image was the pair of them in old age. Though now I am sure I am wrong...

I am now thinking the older image is William Andrew Snow(1886-1960) and Nannie Silvesta Kelly Snow(1889-1961) and their family - image on FindaGrave

Just dug this one out of the box of 40+ antique images and it has the name of "Bill Snow" on the back. It matches the older image from the 1940's-50's.
