Title: Pringles of Hawick
Post by: classicgirl on Friday 16 August 19 11:17 BST (UK)
Hiya

Am trying to think out of the box here

Is there such a place to see the names of the workforce who used to work at Pringles in Hawick in the early 1900's onwards?

A lot of my Ancestors where woollen framework knitters, I know a great aunt did as my mum got lots of cashmere tops from her

Thanks for looking

Carolyn  :)

Hi Carolyn,

Can't see anything online that would give you a list of employees in 1900's.

There is a short history which tells very little but gives a phone number  01450 360200  might be worth giving them a ring to see if they can help.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on

Dorrie

Hi Carolyn

The following information from Douglas Scott's excellent online 'Hawick Word Book':
Records relating to
the firm, covering the period 1922–76 are listed
on the National Register of Archives and a book
‘Pringle of Scotland and the Hawick Knitwear
Story’ (2006) was written by Hugh Barty-King
Regards,
Lesley

You are looking for a needle in a haystack  - alot of record were destroyed when Dawson took Pringles over in the 60s - try going local for any information - project Hawick  or auld hawick 2 on facebook might be able to reach out to local who know people who work there or even photos

a number of years ago I tried to find information concerning another small company called Wm Lockie & Co Ltd in Drumlanrig Square where my aunt was the company secretary for years  up to mid 1960s
but was rather unsuccessful.

I would be interested to hear if you get anywhere
