looking to trace dodds family tree and have hit a brick wall.
looking for a George Dodds birth/baptism record.
have marriage document which shows him marrying margaret pedlow/pedlar in february 1872 and both shown as 21 years of age.
father is shown as richard dodds
marriage took place in Lisburn,
also marriage document has them as church of ireland.
any help would be amazing

Civil Reg for Births only started 1864

so you'd be looking for Church records.

Marriage of GEORGE DODDS and MARGARET PEDLAR
on 07 February 1873
-
yes thats the correct marriage, but have hit a wall after that because cannot find a baptism record for george. on the marriage it says his father is richard dodds and thats as far as i can go
-
Wasn't sure as you have wrong year!

Is this where they came from?
Magheralave https://www.logainm.ie/en/61686

Have you Search Civil Registrations for them?
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
this search should get any registrations for them
-
i have but have got no results. i keep drawing blank whichever route i take. searched familysearch.org irishgenealogy.ie and rootsireland.ie and everytime a blank
-
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01o7i/ gets you all Antrim born, C of I on 1901 Census
-
ah i might have come across a bit of a snag. i found a death record for george on FindMyPast in 1893, athough i cannot confirm as i do not have find my past sub. but the birth year would match his age on marriage document
-
i have wondered whether george was born in ireland at all. as i have noticed that dodds surname is common in ireland but also quite common in durham in this period. but no idea how i could prove this theory

A Search like this might find Siblings marrying....see if father is deceased on any.
-
David Dodds son of George & Margaret (Pedlow)-

-
With the information from Census one can then look for their Births and then see if any Married up to 1922
-
thats great, but is there anyway to find george’s baptism record??

For Co. Antrim & Co. Down it's usually easier to search for sibling marriages here (put in Dodds for surname & Richard for father's name)- 11 results (including George)- some duplicated?-
Mary Dodds (1864)
John Doods (1868)
Elizabeth Dodds (1869)
Samuel Dodds (1869)
George Dodds (1873)
Margaret Dodds (1878)
Richard Dodds (1882)

… or died
-
ok, he was born around 1853 died 1893. which like i say i have marriage and now death record. but church records regarding his baptism im completely drawing a blank hence why posted on here 😊 ive searched in usual places irish genealogy etc but am getting no results from my searches
-
One can also click on folders on Search results to get any BDM's by Decade

Not all church records that survive and of those that do not all are online. Marriages usually take place in bride's church which may or may not be where the groom's family were connected. Also, if you do find a possible church but no baptism check to see if there are gaps in the registers.
Added- also consider that just because he was living in Lisburn at time of marriage doesn't mean he was born in Lisburn itself.

For Lisburn COI records see under Blaris- 4 possibilities-

Absolutely no proof it's George's father. Is it this record?

There's also this one which is from a death certificate- which may or may not be the same person-
