Hi,
I am hoping somebody can please help me with information on the following:
- if this couple had any children?
- maybe David Law's parents/birth/siblings?
David LAW
Born: Circa 1816?
Died: 1 Nov 1879
Buried: Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland
married: 26 Aug 1868, Alloa, Clackmannan, Scotland
Rachel Bogie PHILP
(I have most of the info on the PHILP side)
My main focus if they had any children and maybe David Laws info.
Thank you so much

I actually don't only got the info on FamilySearch, they don't give the actual record.

Thank you for the Scotland People will look into that.

Scotlands people is really the site you need to be looking at for Scottish records. You can buy credits to get the information

If David was 52 when he married was this his second marriage?
When and where was Rachel born?

I think I have answered my own question thanks to Rachels middle name.
PHILP RACHEL BOGIE ROBERT PHILP/MARGARET LAW 31/12/1837 Alloa
I guess David was born in 1842 as there were only two deaths in 1879.
LAW DAVID 70 Died 1879 Born 18009 Falkland
LAW DAVID 37 Died 1879 Born 1842 Echt, Aberdeenshire
LAW RACHEL BOGIE 53 Died 1891 Alloa (Clackmannan)

Hi Colin,
Unfortunately I don't really have info on David Law (only the info I supplied) the only reason I know that he was born Circa 1816 there is a 1871 census done in Beckenham, Kent his age was given 55 and birthplace Scotland but Rachel was only 32 so there may be a possibility of children. On the census it self there was no mention of kids.
Rachel was born 17 Dec 1837 Alloa, Scotland
Thank you

Between 1814 and 1818 there are 11 David Law’s birth records on Scotland’s People.
If he was married earlier there were 32 weddings between 1835 and 1855.
It looks like you need the 1868 marriage record on SP to be sure.
By the way I do not think they had any children.

David Law who died 1 Nov 1879 in Beckenham left a will - Probate Calendar has this;
" Administration (with will) of the personal estate of David Law of Fife House Beckenham ... was granted at the Principal Registry to James Drysdale of 65 King Street Stirling in North Britain and Alexander Monteath Alloa Clackmannan in North Britain Agents of the Clydesdale Banking Company the Residuary Leagatees in Trust substituted".
In 1880 there is this
17 Nov. Administration of the Personal Estate of David La of Fife House ... was granted at the Principal Registry under certain Specialties to Andrew Bell Philp of Beckenham Warehouseman.
This grant ceased and expired as Administration (with will) granted t the Principal Registry Feb 1881."
Presumably a will must have been found after the initial admin.granted. Given the recent price reduction in the cost of copies of old wills it might be worth obtaining - £1.50 well spent?
Also worth saying that Scottish marriage certs. should give the detail of both his parents names including mmn.

His obituary is in the Alloa Advertiser 15 Nov 1879.Here are some of the details from it.
He was born in Dunfermline ,the native town of his father and grandfather, in 1814 and went to London at an early age. Apparently " As recently as Saturday the 18th ultimo,he stood at his father's grave in the Abbey Churchyard, and on Monday the 27th, he assisted in lowering totheir last resting place the remains of his aged father in law,Mr Robert Philp, of Alloa, also a native of Dunfermline."
He returned to Beckenham the following Thursday in weak health and died on the Saturday. His remains were accompanied to Dunfermline by three brothers of the deceased. The funeral was on the 5th Nov.

Thank you so much for all the information. :)

As the info. on baptisms posted are only from indexes, the originals may reveal other family members too although I can't tell but for the price they're worth viewing as sometimes little snippets are added & can be a bonus?
