Hello All, We live in California and are planning a visit to Kingston this fall. We have relatives buried at the Kingston cemetery and wanted to visit their sites. We want to know if anyone is familiar with this cemetery and could tell us where Section E is in relation to the front entrance , also the Wall of remembrance .? We have tried to get a map or directions from the cemetery email address, but have gotten no response. Maybe they have a very limited staff??
I found the map of the cemetery on google, but it doesnt have the sections labeled. Any help would be appreciated, we will be on a limited time table during our visit. Cheers, Bert

The plot numbering at Kingston is a bit unusual. "E" [and you need to know whether it's Con(secrated) or Gen(eral)] is more of a class description than a single area -- there are "E Con" and "E Gen" sections dotted all over the place. The map gives the range of plot numbers in each, but some of the writing is quite tiny and hard to make out. So you need to do your homework in advance and preferably visit when the office is open in case you need help. I should also warn you that they leave the grass unmown in some of the older areas and you need to tread warily if you venture in. If you give me the plot number(s) I may be able to say whether this could be a problem.
I don't think there is a wartime Wall of Remembrance if that's what you're looking for, just scattered individual war graves. There may be walls covered with little plaques in the crematorium area if it's cremations you're interested in, but I've not needed to explore the crematorium grounds on the rather few occasions I've been there.

The Friends of Surrey cemeteries made a brief survey of Kingston-on-Thames cemetery in 2006.
