Title: Mary Jane Melvin born around 1859 in Astley Bridge
Post by: PaulaCM on Tuesday 13 August 19 14:17 BST (UK)
Hi everyone

I would be grateful for help with learning more about my great great grandmother because I've hit a brick wall.

Her name was Mary Jane Melvin (married name Bailey).  I know her maiden name was Melvin because I have her daughters birth cert.

I have found a birth record for her - 1859 in Bolton and I have found a record of her marriage to Henry Bailey in St. Mark's Church Bolton in 1880.

But I can't find her on the 1861 or 1871 census.

On the 1881 census she gives her place of birth as Astley Bridge, Bolton and as Bolton on the 1891 census.

If anyone can spot something I have missed that would be great.  I'd like to find out who her parents were.  I've tried Melvin and Melven.

Many thanks.

In 1861 they are in Broughton Street, Halliwell.

RG 9 / 2812 / 91 / 23.

A stroke had been put through the 'll' of Melville, consequently on FindMyPast they are indexed as Milotte and on Ancestry as Melvette.
