Title: Baptism for Mary SPRINGALL, Bradwell
Post by: AmisUK on Sunday 11 August 19 19:33 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to find out more information about Mary SPRINGALL who married William SMITH in Bradwell on 15th April 1797.

They had the following children that I know of:

William SMITH bapt. 16th December 1798 & buried 25th December 1798 in Bradwell.
Hannah SMITH born 18th April 1800, Bapt. 11th May 1800 in Bradwell (she married Joseph KNIGHTS 13th February 1825 in Bradwell).

The marriage of William SMITH and Mary SPRINGALL has a John SPRINGALL as a witness, but i've not found any baptism record for Mary so far.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Paul

Not Springall I'm afraid but thought this might be useful as Smith is a common name

Robert Smith married Ann Barratt at Bradwell 6 September 1803 witness are William Smith and Mary Smith.
Your William and Mary so perhaps Robert is a brother to William.

Had a look for the marriage in Bradwell, but couldn't find it.
There is a marriage, same date, same names, but in Great Yarmouth.
The other witness is a John Weston.

Found a marriage of John Springall, again Great Yarmouth, 28 April 1794, to one Mary Rounce.
The witnesses are Mary Springall and John Weston.

Looks like John Springall is Mary's brother.

Do you have a death for Mary Springall/Smith?

There's a possible burial for a John Springall aged 50 in Great Yarmouth, January 2 1820, giving him a birth date c. 1770.

One likely baptism was in Corton, Suffolk, very close to both Bradwell and Great Yarmouth.

Three baptisms by a John and Mary Springale at Corton.

Thank you amondg and Yorkslass,

Mary Smith (nee Springall) died approx. 1812 as the following transcription was found online:

1800/05/11 Baptism of Hannah Daughter of William and Mary Smith (late SPRINGALL) was born April 18th, Priv baptised May 11th 1800----received into the Church Aug 15th 1813. . Bradwell Register This is a year after her mother's death.

Taken from https://sites.google.com/site/bevweston/Home/spring-1800s-htm (https://sites.google.com/site/bevweston/Home/spring-1800s-htm)

I believe that John Springall could be Mary's brother as Mary's marriage to William Smith also has a John Welton (Spelling mistake? could it be Weston)

1797/04/15 William Smith of this Parish Bachelor and Mary SPRINGALL of the same, Spinster were Married in this Church by Banns this fifteenth Day of April in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Seven By me Samual Edwards Curate. This Marriage was solumnised between Us The mark X of William Smith &  Mary SPRINGALL (signed) in the Presence of John Welton &  John SPRINGALL

Taken from transcription: https://sites.google.com/site/bevweston/Home/spring-1700s-htm (https://sites.google.com/site/bevweston/Home/spring-1700s-htm)

With Corton being reasonably near to Bradwell, John and Mary could have been baptised there.

William Smith's parents were Michael Smith & Mary Adams married in Bradwell 7th February 1762, but I have no Robert Smith as one of their 7 children.

I have just found this on familysearch.org which helps make sense of the witness with the surname of Welton https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LCD3-N9X (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LCD3-N9X)
