Hi,
Does anyone know if the Auckland Highway Provincial rolls 1863 - 1870 are online and if so where? And what would they have in them? :-\ I found an obscure ref to these for someone I am trying to track.

I looked to Mrs. Google and found the following, although I note the link does not work. ???

Appreciate the reply minniehaha :)
Old Google will give me listings for microfiche (the link you gave was a microfiche one as I searched in their site) but I was hoping there was an online version .... tucked away in some obscure location of the net that only a genealogist could find or know about ....

Hello.
Have you tried the Auckland Central Library? In the 1980's I gained info from one of those records, and the places that I visited, at that time, was the Auckland Library and the Auckland Museum. Don't know that I can readily place my hands on my note books of that period. Was only just starting to do research then.

Thank you for your reply Alan.
Unfortunately Auckland is a very long road trip away. Oh well, I will just have to put it on a list of things to do when I go to Auckland - probably within the next 10 years ;D

You could perhaps try contacting the library..

Hello again.
I would recommend contacting the Auckland library. I find their very extensive family history holdings rather difficult to navigate, and search on line. Not so user friendly for myself, but on a good day I can even find my way back to digital copies of their original card indexes, with their hand written notations, that I thumbed through all those years ago. All very interesting stuff if you have the time, and patience, to navigate your way through. Like with the NZ Archives research that I'm doing at the moment, the more homework you can do on line, assists for when you are at the archive. Surprising how fast time flies, especially if you are also needing counter staff assistance on the day.

PS.
Just gone online to the Auckland library family history, KURA section search. Typed in 'Eden Provincial roll' and got one hit with a named person. This suggests to me that there is some cross referencing, of people mentioned in published rolls, held by the Auckland library. I used EDEN as I knew it was EDEN and RAMA RAMA rolls of that period, that I was searching all those years ago.
Best of luck.
