Title: Merineau family , Quebec Canada.
Post by: hazgraz on Thursday 25 July 19 12:09 BST (UK)
Is anyone researching or have connections to the Merineau Family who lived in Quebec Canada?

Particularly looking for details of 4 of the children of Amadee Merinue [26/1/1847] and Natalie Catudal dite St Jean [8th Dec 1846]. I have a list of their 11 children but I am particularly interested in Amadee Merineau born c1867: Ovila Merineau c1874: Oliva Merineau c1878 and Oliva c1878.

Any help would be appreciated.

Baptism for Amadee Merineau born c 1867 :

Augustin Amadee Marineau baptised 23 Mar 1867 ( born same day ) to Amadee Marineau, shoemaker,  and Natalie Catudal de St Jean
Basilique  Notre Dame , Montreal

There is a burial in the same place in 1872 which has been transcribed as Andre , corrected to Amedee, and mentions age as 4 years and seven months , and names the same parents.

Hi,

Oliva was baptised as Marie Oliva Adeline Merineau b. 14 August 1878, daughter of Amadee
Merineau, boucher (butcher), and Anathalie Catudal.

There is a very faded burial cert. for Oliva Marineau in 1882. I can only make out daughter of
Amadee.....boucher and Anathalie, age 4.

Hi,

Ovila was baptised in Montreal as M. Avila Nathaniel Marino (corrected to Merineau) b. 23 April 1874, son of Amede Marino, shoemaker and Anathlie Catudel.

A marriage 9th Jan 1908 in Montreal Avila Merineau, son of Amedee Merineau and Natalie St. Jean
to Jessie Louisa Tinnuchi, a protestant, daughter of Bartholomew Tinnuchi and Christina Ann Durston.
Permission granted by the archdiocese and the parish priest to perform the marriage.

On the opposite side of the page to the above marriage,
Baptism of Francis Merineau, b. 9th Jan 1908, child of Ovila Merineau and Tinnuchi.
Avila signs both marriage and baptism, signatures are identical.

A burial record 18 Jan 1915, Ovila Merineau, spouse of Jessie Tinncoi, d. 15 Jan., age 40.

Notre Dames des Neiges Cemetery, add the Merineau name in the "recherche de defunt".
The cemetery has a number of your Merineau's.

Added, 1911 Census, Montreal, for Avila transcribed as Morneau
Morneau, Avila, age 36, b. Apr. 1875, boucher
Morneau, Jessie, age 31, wife, b. Apr. 1880
Morneau, Jessie, age 3, daughter, b. Aug. 1908 (think this maybe Frances)
Morneau, Nathalie, age 5/12, daughter, b. Jan. 1910

You're welcome.  :)

Christine53 and I found 3 children, but you mention you are looking for 4, you listed Oliva twice.

Hi hepburn,

Quebec BMD's are the "Drouin Collection", Ancestry has them, as does Genealogy Quebec.
Genealogy Quebec offers a 24 hour sub for $5.00.....or if you wish you can post your name and
an RC'er can have a look for you.

Thankyou. I didn't check the email before sending it  :o

The only other individual's details that I am looking for is Maria Merineau who appears on the 1881 census as a daughter of Amèdée Marineau & Anatalie Marineau c1880. Any thoughts on her.

Hi dbree,
his name is Henry atcherson carson born Montreal 1844....Ive looked at the free censuse's many times and never found him..He was also the subject of Tephra's Scavenger Hunt a few years ago.We didn't find him in Canada or any census in England before 1871,but I had great help from the RootsChatters in finding a lot of other ancestors and a wonderful tree was done for  which I
printed off..

Hi Sandra
Looks like the right individual. My French is lousy. Had it been in German or Hebrew, I would understand it :-)

Hi,

It says.......the 22 August 1885, we, the undersigned, have buried in the cemetery of this parish the body of Maria, daughter of Amadee Merineau, butcher and Nathalie St. Jean who died the 21st of the current month age 5 of the parish Saint Jean Baptiste. Witnesses Auguste A.A. Dubord and Ferdinand
Savage, both clerks (parish clerks I think, they also signed for all the others on the page).

You're welcome hazgraz :)

Hepburn, I haven't forgotten about you, but I see that the Scavenger Hunt is 30 + pages long.
I had a quick look for Henry's birth, but nothing. The records in that time frame can be spotty.
If I find anything else, I will post it on the Scavenger Hunt page, so that we don't hijack
hazgraz's post.
