The above TJ Moylan is the grandfather of someone I am helping to research her family history. However with this fellow I have hit a brick wall. He was born in 1883 in South Australia and lived in Perth. He was married with 3 children and his wife died in 1909. I can locate him in the rate books in Perth in 1912, and the last trace of him I can find is a newspaper article where he is listed as having attended in 1915. I have looked through indexes of different state records but am unable to find any trace of him after 1915 that is definitely him. His father was James Joseph Moylan and his mother Ann Ryan. If anyone can suggest where I might look next then tell me. When in Perth he was a stovemaker at Metters. Cheers Phil

The Ryserson Index pinpoints death notices for two different Thomas Joseph Moylans.
MOYLAN Thomas Joseph Death notice 29MAR1953 Death 51 late of Moonee Pond The Age (Melbourne) 31MAR1953
MOYLAN Thomas Joseph Death notice 12AUG1954 Death 66 Sydney Morning Herald 14AUG1954
Going by age second one shows the birth year of the NSW TJM to be 1887-1888. It could still be worthwhile looking up the death notice in the Sydney Morning Herald to see what it says.

Thanks for the replies. I have spent hours in Trove and state BDM indexes. If there is a death record in Ancestry I have been into trove to check details, especially the ones mentioned. never him. The funeral of Annie Moylan, his mother seems to be his last sighting. I seem to be having trouble replying to posts individually hence this post. His children were Leonard 1904-1956, Thomas 1907-1977, and Frederick 1908-1984. All were born in Perth. All died in Perth. There are a number of Thomas Joseph Moylans in interstate voting registration books etc, Some have family which rule mine out and some are single individuals. I have no way of knowing if the single individual could be him. In Ancestry one individual family tree lists his death, but they are mistaken. It aint him. Cheers Phil

Perhaps you need to search a little more laterally.
The children were very young when their mother died,
Who raised them?
Who are the MOYLANS mentioned in the funeral notice?
Life event news notices of people related to your person of interest will sometimes reveal a clue.
Frequently widowed men with young children remarried.

All 3 kids went to a Catholic boarding type school in Perth I believe. I can check up. Whenever there is a funeral notice in the paper I can identify all the relatives. I have searched Trove using names of relatives but no success. Believe me I have spent hours on it. The people I am helping are his grandchildren aged in the 70's and 80's and they have no idea what happened to him. Have searched the ANZACS in case he went to war, One possible is searching criminal registers but they have to be done in person. It is probably the case that 30 or 40 years ago there were people alive that did know what happened to him. The good side is that I have discovered lots about other relatives for the grandchildren including a couple of people that came to WA as convicts.

The youngest child was one year old at his mother's death, so did not go to a catholic boarding school.
What are the earliest records you can find about that child?
Who looked after him?

Apologies Sparret for the delay in replying. I have been told that although there was family around when the mother of the three boys died, they went into care. Then they attended St Kevins industrial farm school followed by Clontarf. Both in Perth. I have seen the following.…. St Kevin's Industrial School was established in 1897 in Glendalough, near Lake Monger, by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate as an industrial school for Catholic boys aged up to 16 years sent by the courts. Private admissions and boys from orphanages were also accepted. By 1922 all remaining boys had been sent to Clontarf and St Kevin's Industrial School closed. Phil.

Thankyou cando. The first time I have seen that

FYI. "Industrial School" was often more or less a euphemism for Children's Home. That's not to say they were all bad places and this one sounds as if it may have been one of the better ones.
I think this is the website you were quoting.
https://www.findandconnect.gov.au/ref/wa/biogs/WE00194b.htm
"St Kevin's Industrial School (1897 - 1922)"
If the family is interested they can find out through that website and associated support facilities what records are available for the children how to obtain access to them.
