Title: Harriett Davey nee twyford
Post by: emmiesummer on Thursday 18 July 19 12:45 BST (UK)
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me as I have got a little confused and just unable to figure it out and wanted a fresh pair of eyes.

I'm looking into Harriett Louise twyford October 1864- April 1910
Father Francis R Twyford 1840 – 1907
Mother Margaret Evans 1838-1893

She married a man called Frederick Davey born 1846 possible in Essex
Frederick had children from previous marriage (as I don't think Harriett was given birth when she was 10 0r 12, well I can hope. I do believe they are all her step children) she got married when she was 26
Edward Davey 1874
Walter Davey 1878
Frances E Davey 1881-1921
Flora B A Davey 1884
Gertrude Davey 1886

For the life on me I am unable to find the mother of these children, when most of them died and when the father died.

Harriett also had 3 brother
Thomas William twyford 1970-1921
George Thomas twyford 1872- Unable to find a DOD
Walter twyford 1874-1952

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Frederick Davey based on 1861 census when he is 17 and a lodger, states he was born Great Waltham.

The likely baptism for him is 3 December 1843 at Great Waltham, to Phoebe Davey, single woman.

Hi, I too have a 'Twyford' mystery in the same neck of the woods. They may even be related!

I have 3 x Walter Thomas Twyford 's in my family tree, 3 generations, all resided in Tottenham.I
The eldest one is the issue. I have no concrete birth date, I don't know where he ended up, when, where or how he died!! I cannot find anything, despite all my efforts.

Here's what I do have:
Born in 1886.
Met Annie Elizabeth Hyde Luxton from Kingsland/ Dalston, West Hackney. They were married in 1905 in Hampstead, London, and had 1 son together (also Walter Thomas Twyford)on 18th September 1906 in Hackney.
From this point, he just disappears...and she marries another bloke pretty much immediately.
All future documents show she remarried a William Arney, moved to Tottenham and had more  children. In a few documents, she's given her son the new husbands surname.
She didn't get divorced, before remarrying.

If any of you could help or point me in the right direction, I'd be extremely grateful.

    Bonnie  ???

Hello Bonnie

Just checking my various Twyford names but Walter Thomas isn't one of them.

Presumably the baptism 18th August 1886, Holy Trinity, Haverstock Hill, Camden William Thomas Twyford to parents William & Ruth, Horse Keeper of 289 High St, Camden Town isn't "your" William Thomas? Also bap at the same time another son, William.

In 1901 as plain Walter he is living with mother Ruth in Hampstead.

Further records show Walter Thomas Twyford was born 28/1/1884 and was indeed the man baptised 18/8/1886 (mentioned by Joyce C), son of William and Ruth.

6 years after his marriage to Annie he is living next door to his mother and claiming to be 'single'.

Electoral rolls show he lived with mother Ruth until 1925 - from 1926 he is living with an Alice, later described as his wife but no marriage).

Likewise, I can find no marriage between William Arney and Walter's wife Annie.

Clearly, neither could legally remarry so they each took up with someone else and lived with new partner as man and wife.

As an old aunt of mine used to say, after their marriage in 1905 'the wheel came off' and 6 years later Annie is living with another man (William Arney) as his wife and Walter is claiming to be single. From 1926 he is living with a 'wife' Alice.

Walter Thomas bc.1884, died Sept. 1967 Hampstead.  He appears to have stayed in Hampstead after his marriage there in 1905.

;D Wow...Thank you both so very much, I can't believe that's been solved. It was literally a mystery in my family...I'm lost for words.

Just one more family tree mystery to go, and I'll be sorted.

Thank you again, you really are stars x

Hi, well if they're all in the same area, there's a good chance they're related somewhere along the line.

Here's my 3 Walter Thomas Twyfords-
Jan 1940 - 9 July 2015
18 Sep 1906 - Oct 1958
28 Jan 1884 - Sep 1967

Emmie

The Walter Twyford you mention as bn 13th Apr 1874 appears on my tree as a 3rd cousin, twice removed.
