Hello all, could any one point me in the right direction to find out the details of the birth of a William Robert Cunningham, his D.O.B is 14 JUL 1919 Cork.
This is my daughter in law's Grandfather, whom found this out today from her Gran who's 96.
I believe his father David William Cunningham was in the Army and was posted all over the world. So it's pretty hard to found anything about the family. William had a brother but her Gran said his name was 'Buddy'?. and there may be a sister as well name unknown.
The mothers name was Phyllis Blanche Mayhew. They married in Wandsworth London 1912. Phyllis dies in 1936, David then marries a Mabel (as her Gran said he was married to Mabel? I cannot find a marriage) Any advise/help would be very appreciated. Thank you

London electoral registers
1921 - 39 show
David William Cunningham
Mabel Alice Cunningham in Cambridge Street, Westminster
Would that be him?
In later year, there is also James William Cunningham at the address also.

Comparing with 1939 info, I don’t think this is the right family.

Probate record 1937 (death 1936)
Administration for Phyllis Blanche Cunningham, Devon granted to husband, David William Cunningham, Colonel H M Army.

I think I have David + Mabel for 1939 living in the Sutton area. Two names blanked out. States he was a Schoolmaster. I need to get my D.I.L to ask her Gran about this. I will check into James William Cunningham, I know at one point they were living in the Lambeth area amongst other areas also.
Thank you for your help...

As I wrote earlier, I don’t think they are the right family so James William will not be connected.

Are you sure about David William Cunningham and Phyllis Blanche Mayhew being the parents?
There is a birth for Marie Louise Cunningham here with mother Mabel - O’Shea.
David Cunningham, Father, is an Army Schoolmaster

David Cunningham and Mabel O’Shea

Thank you so very much Heywood. No after speaking to her Gran, she said she wasn't sure if Phyllis was right or not. All her Gran told her was that her Grandfather was born in Ireland and that David was married to a Mabel, his siblings were a Buddy and unknown female. Other than that we know nothing. David I believe was born in India so all info I've collected re-David and Phyllis seemed to fit, marriage and probate info.
Her Gran has a lot of old photo's which she has been showing her, but haven't come across any certificates (yet). She has only just started asking her Gran about the family, so hopefully more will be revealed..
Yes, the other Cunningham family living in Westminster is wrong as they are still there in 1939 The ones in Sutton seems to be right, as this is where the family settled.
Thank you again.

It is a bit confusing.
1911 shows that there are 2 Davids both born India.
If you believe that the marriage to Mabel O’ Shea is correct, you would be best to purchase the marriage certificate to verify David’s father.
The marriage to Phyllis shows David William Cunningham, Lieutenant ASC with father John William Cunningham retired Major.
JWC married Ellen Greig and is variously described as an Army Schoolmaster with the rank of Officer.
He is in Dublin in 1901

A couple of trees show this family but no children to David and Phyllis.

Ah,
David William Cunningham born 1885 parents John William and Ellen

David Cunningham born 1888 parents John Robert and Louisa

This last one fits with birthdate :)

David William Cunningham was in the Army and was posted all over the world, so what clues are on his Army Records?
-
Hallmark,

I would say that this is the wrong man and William Robert’s father is just David.

A photocopy of the cert for William Robert Cunningham, D.O.B is 14 JUL 1919 Cork. is probably needed!
Wouldn't be surprised if Mother's maiden name was needed for that! Don't know!
-
Thank you all for your help.
I think I will go with David b. 1888 and start again looking for parents John Robert + Louisa.
I went with the other David as that's the only one that kept coming up. (looks like I'm not the only one that has gone with the same family, looking at other trees).
Now my D.I.L has started asking her Gran about the family we may find out more, without finding out about the Irish connection we would never have known. All she needs to find now are the birth cert. hopefully her Gran may have them somewhere. If not then she will have to send off for the birth and marriage cert.
She has spoken to her mother today who remembers Marie + Buddy, so yes this seems to be the right family.
Thank you all again and special thanks to 'haywood'

Some people like growing Apples and Oranges on same tree!
Better off ignoring other "trees"!
