Title: Lookup Irene L Dronin New York marriage, please?
Post by: Lily52 on Tuesday 16 July 19 15:19 BST (UK)
Would someone be kind enough to look up details of a New York marriage that took place in Manhattan on 31st May 1928, between Henry A Aiken and Irene L Dronin. Licence no. 12532. It may or may not be my grandfather.  Many thanks.

The marriage license is not available online.  That would need to be ordered or viewed at the Municipal Archives, as explained towards the bottom of this page - https://www.nycmarriageindex.com/.  The image of the index doesn't give any more information than you mentioned here, except for Irene's last name possibly looking like Drouin.

There are some marriage record indexes with more information available here - https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2143225  I didn't see these people there.  I also don't see them on the NY City bride's/groom's indexes at www.italiangen.org.

It may be a transcription issue, they may have taken out a license and not married, or I have heard of scenarios where people took their license and married elsewhere in the state.

Just a suggestion:  Google- up the New York city 1930 census to see if in fact they did marry and possibly where living and if a child was born after the marriage date.  It may give you the religion which you coud look for churches in the area of where they live and contact them to see if they have a record.  Good luck.

So we avoid any duplication of effort, it looks like there were previous threads about this man, one of which references him possibly being on the 1930 census as single and listed as Ashberry Aiken:

There's an Irene L. Dronin (or Drouin) who is single on the 1930 census:  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4KJ-C51

So maybe they just never got married?

I think you are right, shellyesq. I think they didn't actually tie the knot. Probably because Henry had a wife in Ireland! But I want to send for a copy of the 3 document file - their application, affidavits and licence. Question is, how do I send a 15 dollar cheque and stamped envelope to New York from the UK?

I would say to e-mail or call the Municipal Archives to see what the options are for overseas mailing.
