Hi, is anyone still having trouble with the shared matches feature on ancestry, which is now really annoying me and ruining my research experience, any way to fix this?, or get my money back?
thanks

What exactly is the problem, Aled?
Sometimes it is slow but I do get the matches.

hi Gadget, just keeps buffering continuously, been like this it seems for at least a couple of months
-
I've noticed that at times.
What I've done is to refresh the page - it then seems to work for a while. It's a nuisance but it seems the only way to sort it.

I had the same problem yesterday. I've just checked on shared matches and it is the same. Nothing coming up for me.
There was a message yesterday saying that they were carrying out work. Kit
Edit: plus, the 'back' button doesn't work
-
Have you tried the refresh button rather than the back one, Kit?
It's annoying - happening 50% time at the moment.
(I'm struggling with line probs too - BT are working somewhere!)
-
thank you..the refresh button seems to be the answer
-
Thanks Gadget, not ideal but a good temporary working solution. Kit

I'm not sure what they're doing - maybe they've taken on too much all at once :-\

I was happily using the shared matches feature for a while, and then, yes, it seemed to just clunk out. However, the search feature has improved...I can now search by name AND location. I will also try the refresh feature and see if shared matches works. Thanks for the tip

Welcome to Rootschat, cathyrin :)
It's getting slightly better but I still have to use the refresh regularly.
I'm going through all my under 20cM matches systematically, allocating them to various groups via the new colour markers . They are one of the best features of the new version.
It's annoying that they only 'share' at this level if they match others at over 20cMs.

Please complain about this limitation on "Was this useful: Please provide feedback" link in the bottom right corner, if many of us do this hopefully they will change it and at least reduce it to 15 cM or allow us to change the lower limit in options somewhere.

I've complained about it quite a few times there, melba. You should know me by now ;D ;D ;D
Add - also referred them to other sites that do do this, etc.

I honestly don't know about MyHeritage or 23andme do they allow smaller shared matches to show?

My Heritage does :)

melba ~
Here's a snip of part of a My Heritage listing showing the shared matches between me and a match. The right hand column shows if there is triangulation. You can then click on that to examine in more detail.
In addition to the listing, it also gives a chart of shared segments.

Thanks Gadget, I did have a quick look at the chromosome browser before but I hadn't noticed some the shared matches were below 20 cM. Given there is a chromosome browser, does that mean all shared matches on MyHeritage actually DO share EXACT segments? That is sometimes not the case on Ancestry with A who matches B then each matching C, D, E in different places.

As far as I know, the ones that triangulate do.

Thanks Gadget. I had not actually explored the MyHeritage shared matches in any detail. I am not sure I like the fact you only get a fairly small partial list at first and keep having to click 'see more matches' and wait 5 seconds for it to load each time. Also the lack of indication whether the matches have trees and how large they are, and the lack of ability to open pages in new tabs is a definite advantage of ancestry at the moment. But the triangulation is one thing that is a definite plus - it is interesting to see how few of the shared matches actually do triangulate. It's hard to say what % it is as I don't think I've yet got to a complete shared match list. I presume even if there isn't triangulation it may still indicate relationships, but probably quite often not.

I think we are way off topic on this thread now, melba. The OP asked about problems with Ancestry shared matches, to which I gave a solution.
If you wish to discuss the workings of My Heritage's shared matches facilities, it might be best to start another thread.
